Rick Miller (speedway Rider)
Richard Leonard Miller (born 12 January 1961, Reseda, Los Angeles, Reseda, California) is a former American international motorcycle speedway rider, and an automotive and motorcycle stuntman. He earned 34 caps for the United States national speedway team. Career Miller won two national BMX titles as a Webco-sponsored rider in his early teens. Miller then rode motocross in the southern California area before switching to Speedway. Miller started his speedway career in 1981, became pro the next year and won rookie of the year. Speedway credits for 1982 include the Ventura Raceway, Ventura track championship and the US Open National Championship in Owego (town), New York, Owego, New York. In 1986 he won the inaugural West End Speedway International at the Adelaide Showgrounds, Wayville Showground in Adelaide, South Australia. 1986 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1986 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 41st edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Hans Nielsen finally won his first world title after finishing in second place during the two previous Championships. He lost his first ride to arch rival and defending champion Erik Gundersen but then won his next four rides to be crowned the champion. Fellow Dane Jan O. Pedersen took silver and England's Kelvin Tatum took the bronze while Gundersen faded into tenth place. It was the fourth final to be held at the Silesian Stadium in Poland. Odsal Stadium
Odsal Stadium (known as Bartercard Odsal Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is a multi-purpose stadium, multipurpose stadium in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The stadium is currently the home of Bradford Bulls rugby league football club and Yorstox Stock Cars who host regular monthly meetings of BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars, BriSCA F1 Stock Cars, and BriSCA Formula 2 Stock Cars, BriSCA F2 Stock Cars. 1989 Speedway World Team Cup
The 1989 Speedway World Team Cup was the 30th edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final was staged at Odsal Stadium, Bradford, England. The English team dominated the meeting, following near tragedy for Denmark. Jeremy Doncaster, Kelvin Tatum, Paul Thorp and Simon Wigg defeated Denmark, Sweden and the USA in a single meeting final. The Danish run of sixth consecutive titles finally came to an end and England once more went top of the all-time list, with nine titles. The World Cup Final saw the end of the career of three time World Champion Erik Gundersen of Denmark. Veterans Memorial Stadium (also known as Veterans Stadium, Vets Stadium or simply The Vet) is an 11,600-seat stadium used mostly for football and soccer located south of the Liberal Arts Campus of Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California. The 1988 Speedway World Team Cup was the 29th edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The three legged final format was scrapped and a one off final returned, which was held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium (Long Beach) in California, United States. 1986 Speedway World Team Cup
The 1986 Speedway World Team Cup was the 27th edition of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. A new format was started in 1986 whereby teams were seeded into groups, with Group 1 containing the leading nations competing over three legs to determine the champions. A promotion and relegation system was in place for the groups. Denmark won all three legs and therefore easily won their fourth consecutive title (and sixth in total) equalling Sweden's six titles and moving into equal second place in the all-time list. It was also Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen's sixth gold medal having taken part in all of Denmark's title wins. The United States national speedway team are an international motorcycle speedway team governed by the American Motorcyclist Association.
