James Ambrose Johnson Jr. (February 1, 1948 – August 6, 2004), better known by his stage name Rick James, was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, James began his musical career in his teenage years. He was in various bands before entering the U.S. Naval Reserve to avoid being drafted into the Army. In 1964, James moved to Toronto, Canada, where he formed the rock band The Mynah Birds, who eventually signed a recording deal with Motown, Motown Records in 1966. James's career with the group halted after military authorities discovered his whereabouts and eventually convicted him of desertion related charges. He served several months in jail. After being released, James moved to California, where he started a variety of Rock music, rock and funk groups in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rick James (10 October 1939 – 24 September 2018) was an Antiguan actor, politician, journalist and mas pioneer. Early life He began his education at Moravian School and continued on to Princess Margaret School. Involved with the 1st Antigua Scout Troop Anglican, James first left his home country to attend the 8th World Scout Jamboree in 1955 as a Queen's Scout. An amateur enthusiast, he entered the Carnival mas as a designer, presenting The Remnants of Rome at the first Summer Carnival in 1957. James went on to win Band of the Year in 1962 with Interplanetary Flag Wavers and again in 1963 with Atlantis Revellers, making him the first back to back winner of the prize. 1961 was an important year for James. Travelling to Trinidad, he represented Antigua at the Pan American Games in the 100-yard sprint. Richard Lee James (born October 11, 1947) is an American former professional baseball player. A , right-handed pitcher, James was the Chicago Cubs' first #1 draft pick in the inaugural Major League Baseball Draft of June 1965. Selected after his graduation from Coffee High School, Florence, Alabama, James had a six-season (1965–1970) professional career, but his Major League stay was only three games and innings pitched — a proverbial "cup of coffee" — at the tail end of the season. Rick “Ricky” James (born July 25, 1976) is an American politician is a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 4th district, starting in 2025. Early life and career James was raised in La Cygne, Kansas, attending the local elementary school. He graduated from Prairie View High School in La Cygne in 1981. After graduating, James enlisted in the Marines, serving for 30 years and retiring in 2011. He participated in the Gulf War, Operation Uphold Democracy, the Iraq War, served on an embassy, and was also a Marine Drill instructor. James attained the rank of Sergeant Major and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Legion of Merit. He also obtained a bachelor's and a master's degree from the American Military University.
