The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is a multi-use cultural facility in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. History The Town of Richmond Hill Council approved the site of the Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts at the former site of the old Town Hall in September 2003. The centre was designed by Jack Diamond and his firm Diamond and Schmitt Architects . The 30 million dollar construction project was the largest ever undertaken by the town. The centre integrated the fully restored Richmond Hill High School (circa 1897), which houses the Centre's administrative offices and a commercial space (Covernotes Tea and Coffee House). Richmond Hill ( 2021 population: 202,022) is a city in south-central York Region, Ontario, Canada. Abel Joseph "Jack" Diamond, (November 8, 1932 – October 30, 2022) was a South African-born Canadian architect. Diamond arrived in Canada in 1964 for the University of Toronto. In 1974, he established his architectural practice, A.J. Diamond Architects. This practice evolved into Diamond Schmitt Architects. Personal life and education Jack Diamond was born on November 8, 1932, in Piet Retief, South Africa, and he belongs to a Jewish family. Diamond's great-grandfather was a rabbi in London, England. Diamond is a solid form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a crystal structure called diamond cubic.
