Richard Waller (naturalist)
Richard Waller Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (d. 1715) was an English naturalist, translator and illustrator, long-time member and secretary of the Royal Society. Little is known about his early life. He became a member of the Royal Society on 27 April 1681, acting as secretary from 1687 to 1709, and again from 1710 to 1714, and member of its council from 1686 to 1699, Vice-President during Isaac Newton’s presidency. Waller edited the ''Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Philosophical Transactions'' from 1691 to 1695, also acting as translator for submissions from abroad. His ''Essays of Natural Experiments'', a translation of the collection of essays ''Saggi di naturali esperienze'' of the Accademia del Cimento is one of the important early publications by the Royal Society. Richard Waller (knight)
Sir Richard Waller was an English soldier and official. His most notable achievement was the capturing of the Duke of Orléans at the Battle of Agincourt, which earned him a knighthood. History Richard was born in Groombridge, Kent around the year 1395. His father was John Waller and his mother was Margaret Waller (née Landsdale). His mother was originally from Sussex and his grandfather, Thomas Waller, also hailed from Sussex. Richard served in the English army under Henry V during the Hundred Years' War. He fought in the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, where he captured Charles d'Orléans, the Duke of Orléans. He was knighted on the battlefield for his actions by his king. Richard Waller (November 16, 1929 – November 29, 2022) was an American clarinetist, visual artist and founder/former artistic director of the Linton Chamber Music Series in Cincinnati, Ohio. Early life and career Richard Waller was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 16, 1929, to Thomas (Tevye) and Sonia (née Castleman) Waller. Waller studied clarinet in Long Beach, California with Fred Ohlendorf, Ralph Sarber and Hoyt Mosher. He was also a student of Kalmon Bloch, principal clarinetist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School with Daniel Bonade, former principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra. He was principal clarinetist of the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra in 1949–1950, after which, on the advice of Leonard Bernstein that a musician should also "get a good education", he enrolled at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Ar ...
