Richard Morton (musical Comedian)
Richard Morton is a British comedian, musician, songwriter, and composer from North East England who became known as a founder member of the London Comedy Store's "Cutting Edge" show. He is best known as a 1992 winner of the Time Out Comedy Award, one half of musical act The Panic Brothers and for The Jack Dee Show (ITV) and The Comedy Store TV series on Channel 5. Early life and education Morton was born in Singapore moving to Newcastle, in North East England and then Hexham, Northumberland. He attended the Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham. After gigging with several rock bands in his native North East, Morton moved to London in the late 1970s to pursue his music, and later, comedy career. Linda Smith (comedian)
Linda Helen Smith (29 January 1958 – 27 February 2006) was an English comedian and comedy writer. She appeared regularly on Radio 4 panel games, and was voted "Wittiest Living Person" by listeners in 2002. From 2004 to 2006 she was head of the British Humanist Association. Life and career Smith was born in Erith, Kent, in 1958 and was educated at Erith College of Technology (now Bexley College) and at the University of Sheffield where she graduated in English and Drama. She was a founder member of the theatre company Sheffield Popular Theatre before turning to comedy. She never joined a political grouping, claiming that The Tufty Club was the only outfit she ever joined. Kevin Day
Kevin Hunter Day (born 3 May 1961) is a British stand up comedian, comedy writer and sports presenter. He came to prominence in the British alternative comedy stand up scene of the late eighties and early nineties, playing clubs like The Comedy Store. This led to him hosting the comedy discussion programme Loose Talk on BBC Radio 1 from 1992 to 1994, having initially co-hosted with Mark Thomas when the programme was launched in 1991. He has co-hosted the Channel 5 sports programme ''Live and Dangerous'' with Mark Webster. He has written for Dave Allen, Jo Brand and The 11 O'Clock Show. Alternative Comedy
Alternative comedy is a term coined in the 1980s for a style of comedy that makes a conscious break with the mainstream comedic style of an era. The phrase has had different connotations in different contexts: in the UK, it was used to describe content that was an "alternative" to the mainstream stand-up of the day which took place in working men's clubs, and was characterised by unoriginal gags often containing elements of sexism and racism. In other contexts, it is the nature of the form that is "alternative", avoiding reliance on a standardised structure of a sequence of jokes with punch lines. Patton Oswalt has defined it as "comedy where the audience has no pre-set expectations about the crowd, and vice versa.
