Richard Dean (civil Servant)
Richard Betenson Dean (born Richard Betenson Brietzcke; 29 December 1772 − 1 July 1850) was a British civil servant. Dean's family had a history of work in the civil service. His Polish grandfather settled in England and became a confidant to the Duke of Grafton, while Dean's father worked in the Secretary of State's office for most of his life. Following an education at Oxford University, he was called to the bar in 1808, but became a customs commissioner two years later. He served as chairman of the English Board of Customs from 1819; when that Board was merged with its Scottish equivalent in 1823, he took over as chairman of the new Customs Board for the United Kingdom. Despite complements on his work, elements of the press and Parliament became critical of the commissioners' competence in the 1840s. Richard Dean ( – 8 February 1778) was an English Anglican minister and early animal rights writer. Biography Dean was born in Kirkby Malham, Yorkshire, around 1727. In addition to being an Anglican minister, Dean was schoolmaster of Middleton grammar school. He was first curate of Royton Chapel and curate of Middleton. Dean is best known for his two volume book, ''An Essay on the Future Life of Brutes'', which argued for animal rights and a future existence (afterlife) for animals from the Bible. He argued that animal immortality followed logically and morally from animal sentience. Dean believed that animals had a sentient principle or soul and that and a loving God would not have created animals subject to pain if he had not intended to compensate their suffering with a future existence.Richardson, Angelique. Richard Antony Dean is a former British Racing Driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans GT2 class in 2006. In 2010, Richard Dean founded the sports car racing team United Autosports with Zak Brown. Racing career Early career Richard Dean started his competitive racing career in karts as a teenager. In 1985, Richard progressed to car racing in Formula Ford 1600. After multiple seasons in FF1600 with multiple race wins, and finishing sixth in the 1987 Formula Ford Festival, he moved up to contest the 1989 British F3 Championship. 1990 saw a move to Formula 3000 for the next two seasons, scoring top 6 results in the International F3000 series and winning the Oulton Park International Gold Cup, Oulton Park Gold Cup race in the 1990 British F3000 series with Cobra Motorsport. Dick Dean (February 9, 1933 – July 10, 2008), born Richard Dean Sawitskas a-WITS-kas was an American automobile designer and builder of custom cars. Biography Born in Wyandotte, Michigan, 20 miles south of Detroit, the heart of the automotive world, Dean studied art and drafting at Theodore Roosevelt High School and also attended the Ford Trade School because his life's ambition was to be a model-maker at Ford Motor Company. His father, Vic, owned a Nash dealership and Dean worked in the body repair shop. He learned the technical aspects of auto body repair, but was frustrated with the lack of creativity.
