Harry Richard Black (October 10, 1921 – March 30, 2014) was an American commercial artist, illustrator, and portraitist. Black created the original Mr. Clean mascot for Procter & Gamble's household cleaner during the 1950s. Biography Early life and education Richard Black was born on October 10, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He enrolled at Syracuse University, but left the school to enlist in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He moved to Ohio after the war and opened an art studio in Dayton. He also taught art at both the University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College on a part-time basis for years. Career Black, who spent much of his career as a commercial artist, worked on projects for a number of companies, ranging from Frigidaire to Shell Oil. However, Black is best known for creating the widely recognized Mr. Clean commercial mascot. Procter & Gamble contacted Black during the 1950s. Dick Black (politician)
Richard Hayden Black (born May 15, 1944) is an American politician. A Republican, he served as a member of the Virginia State Senate, representing the 13th District, which encompasses parts of both Loudoun and Prince William Counties, from 2012 to 2020. Black was previously a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from years 1998 to 2006. Black announced that he would not seek re-election in 2019, instead retiring at the end of his term. Early life Black was born in northern Virginia in 1944 and grew up in Miami as the middle of three children. His father was an IRS agent who helped investigate organized crime. Black's first job was working at the Miami Serpentarium, importing cobras, vipers and other venomous snakes, and preparing them for transport to zoos throughout the world. The 1950 Grand National was the 104th renewal of the Grand National horse race that took place at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England, on 25 March 1950. Nearly 500,000 people packed into Aintree for the first royal National since the Second World War. In attendance were King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, their daughter Princess Elizabeth, and a number of other members of the royal family. Royal interest centred on Monaveen, the co-third-favourite who was jointly owned by the Queen and Princess Elizabeth. Despite leading the field, Monaveen made a bad mistake at The Chair, nearly unseating his jockey, and losing significant ground. The race was won by Freebooter, the 10/1 joint-favourite ridden by Irish jockey Jimmy Power and trained by Bobby Renton for owner Lurline Brotherton. Richard Horatio Black (February 11, 1839 - May 13, 1911) was a soldier, teacher, Volusia County registrar, justice of the peace, member of the Florida House of Representatives and held a custom house position in Philadelphia. He was a member of the state house representing Alachua County, Florida in 1869 and 1870, In August 1868 he was made an Inspector of Elections. From 1868 to 1869 he served as a justice of the peace. In his 1888 book ''Carpetbag Rule in Florida'', former Leon County, Florida legislator John Wallace or presumed author William D. Rick Black
Rick Black is a former award-winning Fullback and Grey Cup Champion in the Canadian Football League. A graduate of Mount Allison University, Black joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1963. He was the starting punter during his rookie season (79 punts for a 36.9 yard average) and on the strength of his kicking, won the Gruen Trophy as best rookie in the East (this at a time when only Canadians were eligible for the award.) He later developed into a reliable reserve fullback, his best year being 1965 when he rushed for 480 yards. In total, he rushed for 1309 yards, caught 28 passes and scored 12 touchdowns.
