Revolving Door
A revolving door typically consists of three or four doors that hang on a central shaft and rotate around a vertical axis within a cylindrical enclosure. To use a revolving door, a person enters the enclosure between two of the doors and then moves continuously to the desired exit while keeping pace with the doors. Revolving doors were designed to relieve the immense pressure caused by air rushing through high-rise buildings (referred to as stack effect pressure) while at the same time allowing large numbers of people to pass in and out. They are also energy efficient; they act as an airlock to prevent drafts, decreasing the loss of heating or cooling for the building as compared to a standard door. Construction Around the central shaft of the revolving door, there are usually three or four panels called ''wings'' or ''leaves''. Large diameter revolving doors can accommodate pushchairs and wheeled luggage racks - such large capacity doors are sometimes H-shaped to split the ... Revolving Door (advertisement)
"Revolving Door" was a famous negative television commercial made for Republican nominee George H. W. Bush's campaign during the 1988 United States presidential election. Along with the '' Willie Horton'' ("Weekend Passes") commercial, it is considered to have been a major factor in Bush's defeat of Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis. The ad was produced by political consultant Roger Ailes with help from Bush campaign manager Lee Atwater, and first aired on October 5, 1988. "Revolving door syndrome" is a term used in criminology to refer to recidivism; however, in the ad, the implication is that prison sentences were of an inconsequential length. Synopsis The ad shows a line of convicts (portrayed by actors) casually walking in and out of a prison (filmed in Draper, Utah) by means of a revolving door. The narration states that as governor of Massachusetts, Dukakis vetoed mandatory minimum sentencing for drug dealers, that he vetoed the death penalty, and that he gave ... Revolving Door (Crazy Town Song)
"Revolving Door" is a song by American rap rock band Crazy Town. It was released in August 2001 as the fourth and final single from their debut album ''The Gift of Game''. It was the followup single to their No. 1 hit ''Butterfly''. Whilst failing to chart in the US, the song became a minor hit in several countries, reaching No. 19 in Finland and No. 23 in the UK. Reception Christian Genze from Allmusic stated that whilst "Revolving Door" was not a bad song by any means, it too closely resembled their previous single "Butterfly" to be a real standout. Genze stated both songs feature similar soft guitar loops, smooth beats and a relaxed mood, and that neither song was reflective of Crazy Town's album, ''The Gift of Game'', on which the majority of songs are much heavier. Timothy Mark from NME gave the song and the band a negative review, criticising the song's premise and sexist lyrics. Bonus tracks Allmusic also stated that the remix of the single by Jay Gordon was better than th ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Revolving Door (politics)
In politics, a revolving door can refer to two distinct phenomena. Primarily, it denotes a situation wherein personnel move between roles as legislators or regulators in the public sector, and as employees or lobbyists of industries (affected by state legislation and regulations) in the private sector. It is analogous to the movement of people in a physical revolving door, hence its name. Critics assert that such a relationship between the government and private sector can lead to conflict of interest and regulatory capture, based on the granting of reciprocated privileges between them. The term has also been used to refer to the constant switching and ousting of political leaders from office, such as in Australia (which changed Prime Ministers 6 times from 2007 to 2018), interwar Yugoslavia, and Japan. Overview Previous work The revolving door phenomenon has become a public interest in the 2010s, with the writings of Andrew Baker, Simon Johnson and James Kwak. In the l ... Amnesiac (album)
''Amnesiac'' is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released on 30 May 2001 by EMI. It was recorded with the producer Nigel Godrich in the same sessions as Radiohead's previous album '' Kid A'' (2000). Radiohead split the work in two as they felt it was too dense for a double album. As with ''Kid A, Amnesiac'' incorporates influences from electronic music, 20th-century classical music, jazz and krautrock. The final track, "Life in a Glasshouse", is a collaboration with the jazz trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton and his band. After having released no singles for ''Kid A'', Radiohead promoted ''Amnesiac'' with the singles " Pyramid Song" and "Knives Out", accompanied by music videos. Videos were also made for "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" and "Like Spinning Plates", as well as "I Might Be Wrong", which was released as a promotional single. In June 2001, Radiohead began the ''Amnesiac'' tour, incorporating their first North American tour in three years. ''Amne ...
