Revenge Of The Pearl Queen
is a 1956 Japanese thriller film directed by Toshio Shimura and starring Michiko Maeda. This film was one of the earliest Japanese films featuring nudity. Plot Yoshio Kizaki is framed for murder and theft by his corrupt boss Kenji Asamura. When Natsuki Kagawa, Kizaki's lover who works for the same boss, discovers the plot on a sea voyage, Asamura throws her overboard. Natsuki is washed up on an island where she is rescued by a group of shipwrecked sailors. Fending off the lecherous sailors, she dives for pearls in the surrounding waters and eventually amasses a fortune which she uses to free her lover from prison. The plot strongly resembles that of the last film of Josef von Sternberg, the 1953 '' Saga of Anatahan'', which told the reputedly true story of stranded Japanese seamen on an island who murder each other for the favors of the only woman. is a Japanese film and television actress who became known as the first Japanese actress to appear in a nude scene in a mainstream film. Life and career Michiko Maeda was born in Osaka Prefecture on February 27, 1934. She was working in a department store in the Nihonbashi district of Tokyo when she began working as an actress at the Shintoho studio in 1955. Her film debut was in director Hiromasa Nomura's ''Santōshain to Onna Hisho'' (), released in August 1955. Maeda's minor role as a striptease dancer in director Seiichiro Uchikawa's ''Eikō to Bakusō Ō'' (, 1956) brought her to public attention through her voluptuous figure. (24 October 1931 – 14 March 2014) was a Japanese actor who worked on stage, film, and television from the 1950s to the 2010s. Career and death Born in Tokyo, Utsui entered the Haiyūza theatre troupe in 1952 and was soon selected to star in the film ''Seishun no izumi'' that was produced by Haiyūza. In 1954, he signed a contract with Shintoho and starred in 60 films, including the Super Giant series. He moved to Daiei Film in 1963 and starred in another 52 films. Shintōhō
was a Japanese movie studio. It was one of the big six film studios (which also included Daiei, Nikkatsu, Shochiku, Toei Company, and Toho) during the Golden Age of Japanese cinema. It was founded by defectors from the original Toho company following a bitter strike in 1947. , also known as ''The Saga of Anatahan'', is a 1953 black-and-white Japanese film war drama directed by Josef von Sternberg. The World War II Japanese holdouts on Anatahan (then part of the South Seas Mandate of Imperial Japan, now one of the Northern Mariana Islands of the United States) also inspired a 1998 novel, '' Cage on the Sea''. It was the final work directed by noted Hollywood director Josef von Sternberg (although '' Jet Pilot'' was released later). Von Sternberg had an unusually high degree of control over the film, made outside the studio system, which allowed him to not only direct, but also write, photograph, and narrate the action. Although it opened modestly well in Japan, it did poorly in the US, where von Sternberg continued to recut the film for four more years.
