Resurrection (1958 Film)
''Resurrection'' (German: ''Auferstehung'') is a 1958 historical drama film directed by Rolf Hansen and starring Horst Buchholz, Myriam Bru and Edith Mill. It was made as a co-production between France, Italy and West Germany. It is an adaptation of the 1899 novel ''Resurrection'' by Leo Tolstoy. It was shot at the Bavaria Studios in Munich with sets designed by the art director Robert Herlth. Resurrection (Tolstoy Novel)
''Resurrection'' ( pre-reform Russian: ; post-reform , also translated as ''The Awakening''), first published in December 1899, was the last novel written by Leo Tolstoy. The book is the final of his major long fiction works published in his lifetime. Tolstoy intended the novel as a panoramic view of Russia at the end of the 19th century from the highest to the lowest levels of society and as an exposition of the injustice of man-made laws and the hypocrisy of the institutionalized church. The novel also explores the economic philosophy of Georgism, of which Tolstoy had become a very strong advocate towards the end of his life, and explains the theory in detail. The publication of ''Resurrection'' led to Tolstoy's excommunication by the Holy Synod from the Russian Orthodox Church in 1901. Antonio Cifariello (19 May 1930 – 12 December 1968) was an Italian actor. Life and career Born in Naples, son of the sculptor Filippo Cifariello, Antonio started his career in 1950 as the main actor, credited as Fabio Montale, in ''La sposa che vestiva di bianco'', a film which had several production issues and that was released only in 1953. In the meanwhile Cifariello appeared in several fotoromanzi using the stage name Mauro Vellani, and enrolled at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, graduating in 1953. Jan Heinrich Tilman Kiwe (born Eduard Heinrich Kiefer), also known as ''Til Kiver'' or ''Till Kiwe'', (b. 7 June 1910 in Aachen; d. 30 November 1995 in Munich) was a German actor, voice actor and screenwriter who also was an ethnologist and highly decorated army officer and POW. Gabrielle Dorziat (25 January 1880 – 30 November 1979) was a French stage and film actress. Dorziat was a fashion trend setter in Paris and helped popularize the designs of Coco Chanel. Robert Peter Freytag (7 April 1916 in Vienna – 8 July 2010 in Munich), known professionally as Robert Freitag, was an Austrian-Swiss stage and screen actor and film director. Life Freitag was the son of the Swiss opera singer Otto Freitag (Otto Freytag). He was trained as an actor at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. During the Nazi era, he went to Switzerland, where he was active as an actor at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (Zürich playhouse). In 1945, he married the German actress Maria Becker, who had studied acting in Vienna and who since had been at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, which had benefitted from the presence of German émigrés during the Second World War.
