Reprodukt
Reprodukt is a German comic book and graphic novel publisher headquartered in Berlin. History Reprodukt was founded by Dirk Rehm in 1991. Rehm chose the name—the German word for "reproduce"—because he viewed the printed pages of published comics as reproductions of the original artwork. Entering the industry with a German-language republication of the Hernandez brothers' '' Love and Rockets'' established the company's focus on alternative comics, especially avant-garde works by comic creators with distinctive styles. Many of their published titles are autobiographical works targeted at educated, middle-class adult readers, although they also release children's comics. One such series, "Kiste", a story about an animated cardboard box, has been one of their bestsellers. Barbara Yelin
Barbara Yelin (born 26 July 1977, Munich) is a German cartoonist who has won several awards in Germany including the Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis, Max & Moritz Prize, and the Ernst-Hoferichter-Preis. As an educator, she has been affiliated with Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar and University of Applied Arts Vienna. Education Barbara Yelin studied illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 2004. Career She first published the comic stories (2004) and (2006) in France. In Germany, she drew contributions for the anthologies ''Spring''. and ''Pomme d'amour''. She produced her comic ''Gift'' about the story of Gesche Gottfried in 2010 based on a scenario by Peer Meter. Nicolas Mahler
Nicolas Mahler (born 1969) is an Austrian cartoonist and illustrator. ''Die Zeit'', '' NZZ am Sonntag'', '' Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung'' and ''Titanic'' print his comics. He is known for his comics ''Flaschko'' and ''Kratochvil'' and for his literary adaptations in comic form. His comics have been adapted into films and theatre plays. He was awarded the Max & Moritz Prize and the Preis der Literaturhäuser. Life and career Mahler was born in Vienna. Anna Haifisch
Anna Haifisch (born 1986) is a German cartoonist and illustrator who has been working for German and international media. She is best known for her cartoons titled ''The Artist'', first published by ''Vice'' magazine, her 2018 doodle for Google and her contribution to the series ''Drawn to MoMA'' of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Her work has received several awards and has been translated into English, French, Spanish and other languages. Life and career Haifisch was born in Leipzig, East Germany. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panel (comics), panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. A graphic novel is a long-form, fictional work of sequential art. The term ''graphic novel'' is often applied broadly, including fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work, though this practice is highly contested by comic scholars and industry professionals. Hernandez Brothers
The Hernandez brothers, also known as Los Bros Hernandez, are the three American cartoonist brothers Mario (b. 1953), Gilbert (b. 1957), and Jaime Hernandez (b. 1959). The three were born in a Mexican-American family and grew up in Oxnard, California. In the 1980s they gained fame with their comic book '' Love and Rockets'', a prominent series in the early alternative comics scene, and which drew from a wide range of influences, including mainstream and underground comics, punk rock, and Mexican-American culture. Love And Rockets (comics)
''Love and Rockets'' (often abbreviated ''L&R'') is a comic book series by the Hernandez brothers: Gilbert, Jaime, and Mario. It was one of the first comic books in the alternative comics movement of the 1980s. The Hernandez brothers produce stories in the series independently of each other. Gilbert and Jaime produce the majority of the material, and tend to focus on particular casts of characters and settings. Those of Gilbert usually focus on a cast of characters in the fictional Central American village of Palomar; the stories often feature magic realist elements. Alternative comics cover a range of American comics that have appeared since the 1980s, following the underground comix movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Alternative comics present an alternative to mainstream superhero comics which in the past have dominated the American comic book industry. Alternative comic books span a wide range of genres, artistic styles, and subjects. Alternative comics are often published in small numbers as the author(s) deem fit. They are often published with less regard for regular distribution schedules. Charles Burns (born September 27, 1955) is an American cartoonist and illustrator. His early work was published in a Sub Pop fanzine, and he achieved prominence in the early issues of '' RAW''. His graphic novel ''Black Hole'' won the Harvey Award. Craig Matthew Thompson (born September 21, 1975) is an American graphic novelist best known for his books '' Good-bye, Chunky Rice'' (1999), '' Blankets'' (2003), ''Carnet de Voyage'' (2004), '' Habibi'' (2011), and ''Space Dumplins'' (2015).
