Renato Baretić
Renato Baretić (12 April 1963 – 1 July 2025) was a Croatian journalist, writer, screenwriter and actor. Biography Baretić was born on 12 April 1963 in Zagreb. In 1983, he began working as a journalist and wrote for numerous Croatian newspapers and magazines. He was a co-writer of the TV series ''New Age'', and a compiler of questions for TV quizzes. Together with Ivica Ivanišević, Ante Tomić (writer), Ante Tomić, Jurica Pavičić and Alem Ćurin, he started the cultural magazine ''Torpedo''. He wrote a number of novels, including ''The Eighth Commissioner'' (later adapted into The Eighth Commissioner, a film of the same name), he received numerous literary awards. He died on 1 July 2025 in Split, Croatia, Split. Ante Tomić (writer)
Ante Tomić (born April 22, 1970) is a Croatian writer and journalist. Biography He finished elementary school in the village of Prološac near Imotski, where he lived until he was fourteen. After that, he was a cadet at a Yugoslav People's Army high school in Zagreb. He completed his studies in philosophy and sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar. As a writer, he first appeared in the newspaper ''Slobodna Dalmacija'', and in 2001 he moved to the newspaper ''Jutarnji list''. He published his first collection of stories, ''Zaboravio sam gdje sam parkirao'' ("I forgot where I parked"), in 1997, and its expanded edition in 2001. His debut novel ''Što je muškarac bez brkova'' ("What is a man without a moustache") was published in 2000. The novel was a great success and has had seven editions so far. Jurica Pavičić (born 2 November 1965 in Split) is a writer, columnist and film critic. Pavičić's screenplay for ''Witnesses'' (''Svjedoci''), Vinko Brešan's 2003 film, won the Golden Arena for Best Screenplay in the 2003 Pula Film Festival. The screenplay, co-written with Živko Zalar, is based on Pavičić's debut novel ''Alabaster Sheep'' (''Ovce od gipsa''). His novels and short story collections have been translated to English, German, Italian, French and Bulgarian. Pavičić was, with Nenad Polimac, one of two Croatian film critics who participated in the British Film Institute's '' Sight & Sound'' Greatest Films of All Time poll in 2012.
