Reminiscing
"Reminiscing" is a song by Australian soft rock music group Little River Band, released in June 1978 as the second single from their fourth studio album ''Sleeper Catcher''. The song was written by the band's guitarist, Graeham Goble, and sung by their lead singer, Glenn Shorrock. "Reminiscing" peaked at number 35 on the Australian Kent Music Report and at No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. At the Australian 1978 King of Pop Awards, the song won Australian Record of the Year. "Reminiscing" was given a BMI Five Million-Air award for five million plays on US radio—the highest achievement ever for any Australian popular song. According to Albert Goldman's biography, John Lennon named "Reminiscing" as one of his favourite songs. May Pang, erstwhile girlfriend of Lennon, said "Oddly, with all the fantastic music he wrote, "our song" was 'Reminiscing' by the Little River Band." ''Reminiscing'' is a compilation album by American singer-songwriter Buddy Holly. The album was released as an LP record in both mono and stereo formats in February 1963 (see 1963 in music). ''Reminiscing'' was Buddy Holly's third posthumously released album and the second album to feature previously unreleased material. The original recordings were overdubbed by the Fireballs in 1962 and many of the undubbed recordings appeared on ''For the First Time Anywhere'' in 1983. ''Reminiscing'' is the first collaborative long-play recording by American country music artists Chet Atkins and Hank Snow, released in 1964. History The liner notes, titled "Guitar Duets by a Pair of Favorites", are by Chris Lane, a program director from KAYO radio in Seattle, Washington, who takes credit for recommending the collaboration to RCA. Snow and Atkins had been doing guitar duets on various radio stations, gathering listeners and fans. Their first single was "Reminiscing", produced roughly seven years before the release of this LP. Atkins and Snow had a hit single in 1955, a guitar duet called "Silver Bell." A regular at the Grand Ole Opry, Snow was a Hall of Fame country music singer and songwriter. Johnny Smith
Johnny Henry Smith II (June 25, 1922 – June 11, 2013) was an American cool jazz and mainstream jazz guitarist. He wrote " Walk, Don't Run" in 1954. In 1984, Smith was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. Early life During the Great Depression, Smith's family moved from Birmingham, Alabama, where Smith was born, through several cities, ending up in Portland, Maine. Smith taught himself to play guitar in pawnshops, which let him play in exchange for keeping the guitars in tune. At thirteen years of age he was teaching others to play the guitar. One of Smith's students bought a new guitar and gave him his old guitar, which became the first guitar Smith owned. Smith joined Uncle Lem and the Mountain Boys, a local hillbilly band that travelled around Maine, performing at dances, fairs, and similar venues. Smith earned four dollars a night.
