Remember My Song
''Remember My Song'' is the fifth studio album by British musician Labi Siffre. Released in 1975, it was the first of Siffre's two albums released that year, the other being ''Happy''. Despite having some notable backing musicians such as Big Jim Sullivan co-producing, Brian Bennett of the Shadows on drums, and Chas & Dave who would become well known in their own right, the album did not chart. The album garnered a resurgence of interest in 1999, when its opening track " I Got The..." was sampled by American rapper Eminem on his first hit "My Name Is", eventually leading to the whole album being reissued in 2006. Composition and recording It was co-produced by session guitarist Big Jim Sullivan and record producer Derek Lawrence. Siffre wrote or co-wrote all tracks on the album with the exception of "Old Time Song", which was written by studio musicians Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock, who later became known as the duo Chas & Dave. Claudius Afolabi "Labi" Siffre ( , born 25 June 1945) is a British singer, songwriter and poet. Siffre released six albums from 1970 to 1975 and four from 1988 to 1998. His compositions include " It Must Be Love", which reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in 1971 (and was later covered by the band Madness), "Crying Laughing Loving Lying", and " (Something Inside) So Strong"—an anti-apartheid song inspired by a television documentary in which white soldiers in South Africa were filmed shooting at black civilians in the street—which hit number 4 on the UK chart. The latter song won Siffre the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, and it has been used in Amnesty International campaigns. "My Name Is" is a song by American rapper Eminem from his second studio album '' The Slim Shady LP'' (1999). It is also the opening song and lead single of the album. Raymond Russell is an English session musician and experimental jazz rock guitarist. He is also a record producer and composer. Russell made his professional debut as Vic Flick's replacement as lead guitarist in the John Barry Seven. Session guitarist In 1973 he was a member of the band Mouse, which released a progressive rock album entitled ''Lady Killer'' for the Sovereign record label. Stateside Records, styled as $tateside Records, is a British record label, owned by Warner Music Group and operates through its Parlophone and Warner Records imprints. In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, or sound effects. A sample might comprise only a fragment of sound, or a longer portion of music, such as a drum beat or melody. Samples are often layered, Equalization (audio), equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, Loop (music), looped, or otherwise manipulated. David Victor Peacock (born 24 May 1945) is an English musician and bass guitarist. He was brought up in the Ponders End and Freezywater areas of Enfield. Peacock is best known as having been one half of the English musical duo Chas & Dave from 1974 until the death of Chas Hodges in 2018. Career Earlier in his career in the 1960s, Peacock was in a group called the Rolling Stones (formed in 1960 before the more famous band of the same name), as well as The Tumbleweeds, he also worked with Mick Greenwood and Jerry Donahue. He met Chas Hodges in 1963 when he and his friend gave Hodges a lift home, and became friends when they found they had a similar taste in music. Later in the late 1960s they became part of a group called Black Claw together with Harvey Hinsley and Mick Burt; they recorded tracks with Albert Lee. Charles Nicholas Hodges (28 December 1943 – 22 September 2018) was an English musician and singer. He was the lead vocalist, pianist and guitarist of the musical duo Chas & Dave, whose most successful singles include "Rabbit" (1980) and " Ain't No Pleasing You" (1982). Earlier in his career, he was a member of Joe Meek-produced instrumental group the Outlaws and the country rock band Heads Hands & Feet.
