Reichenau, Baden-Württemberg
Reichenau is a municipality in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It is located partly on Reichenau Island with its famous abbey and on the northern shore of the ''Untersee'' section of Lake Constance. The island has historically been the center of the community. The administrative seat of the municipality is in the village of ''Mittelzell''. A causeway built in 1838 connects the isle with the mainland. The municipality consists of the settlements ''Niederzell'', ''Mittelzell'' und ''Oberzell'' on the island as well as ''Lindenbühl'' and ''Waldsiedlung'' on the shore. The municipality encompasses the estates of the former Reichenau Abbey, which was secularized in 1757. Bodanrück () is the wide peninsula that divides Lake Constance () into '' Überlinger See'' (part of '' Obersee'') and '' Gnadensee'', which is part of '' Untersee''. At its southern end, it reaches the '' Seerhein'', which links ''Obersee'' with Untersee. It is bordered by the island of Mainau to the east and Triboldingerbohl and Reichenau Islands to the west. ''Seehas'' is a regional rail service that operates as S6 service between Engen and Konstanz in the district of Konstanz, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is managed and operated by SBB GmbH, the German subsidiary of Swiss Federal Railways. It began operation in 1994. History Service began on 23 May 1994, with the extension of existing services from (in Switzerland) to Engen. These were operated by Mittelthurgaubahn, a Swiss company. On Mittelthurgaubahn's bankruptcy in 2003–2004, operation passed to , the German subsidiary of THURBO. EuroTHURBO itself merged into SBB GmbH in 2005. Reichenau Island () is an island in Lake Constance in Southern Germany. It lies almost due west of the city of Konstanz, between the Gnadensee and the Untersee, two parts of Lake Constance. With a total land surface of and a circumference of , the island is long and wide at its greatest extent. The highest point, the Hochwart, stands some above the lake surface and above mean sea level.
