Rehabilitation Counseling
Rehabilitation counseling is a type of counseling focused on helping people with physical impairments or disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals. Rehabilitation counselors can be found in private practice, in Physical therapy, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, universities, schools, government agencies, insurance companies and other organizations where people are being treated for Congenital disorder, congenital or acquired disabilities. Over time, with the changes in social work being more psychotherapy-oriented, rehabilitation counselors take on more and more community engagement work, especially as it relates to special populations. Some rehabilitation counselors focus solely on community engagement through vocational services, others in various states qualify as both a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and a licensed professional counselor (LPC), enabling them to focus on psychotherapy. National Black Deaf Advocates
The National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA) is an advocacy organization for Black deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. Organization NBDA serves as the national advocate for deaf and hard of hearing African-Americans. Membership includes not only African-American adults who are deaf and hard of hearing but also deaf and hard-of-hearing people of all races, parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing; professionals who work with the deaf and hard of hearing youth and adults; sign language interpreters; and affiliated individuals and organizations. The executive board serves on a voluntary basis and consists mainly of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Alberta Banner Turner (March 17, 1909 – January 31, 2008) was an African American professor and psychologist, and a noted Civil and political rights, civil rights and women's rights activist in the field of psychology. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer
Kathleen Hawk Sawyer is a former director of the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons. Serving as the first female director, Sawyer occupied the position from 1992 until 2003. On August 19, 2019, Attorney General William Barr re-appointed her as director of the Bureau of Prisons. She left this role on February 25, 2020. Dianne Primavera
Dianne I. Primavera (born January 28, 1950) is an American politician who has been the 50th lieutenant governor of Colorado since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the Colorado State Representative for the 33rd district from 2007 to 2011, and again from 2013 to 2017. Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jared Polis selected Primavera as his running mate, in the 2018 Colorado gubernatorial election. Erin Pac (born May 30, 1980) is a former American bobsledder who competed from 2002 to 2010. She won two medals in the mixed bobsled-skeleton team event at the FIBT World Championships with a silver in 2007 and a bronze in 2008. Captain Robert Bolling Kelly (June 9, 1913 – January 23, 1989) was an officer of the United States Navy who served during World War II. Biography Kelly was born in New York City, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1935. World War II In 1941–42 Lieutenant Kelly served as both Executive Officer of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 3 under Lieutenant John D. Bulkeley, and as commander of , based in the Philippines. Kelly took part in the operation to evacuate General Douglas MacArthur and his staff from Corregidor to Mindanao, on the night of March 12–13, 1942 and was subsequently awarded the Silver Star. Young Woo Kang (6 January 1944 – 24 February 2012) was a disability rights advocate, author, and speaker. He was known for his work in developing a braille alphabet for the Korean language. He was the Vice Chair of the World Committee on Disability. Kang was a former policy advisor of the National Council on Disability to the United States White House, serving under former president George W. Bush. In 2001, Kang received the Asian American Society's Outstanding Contribution and Achievement Award. Kang was the former dean of South Korea's Taegu University, Supervisor of Special Education in Indiana, and was an adjunct professor at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
