Regulatory Innovation Office
The Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO) is an office within the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology established on 8 October 2024. The Office's stated purpose is to speed up regulatory decisions by acting as a intermediary between government, regulators, and businesses. Initially the RIO will concentrate on sectors such as engineering biology, space, artificial intelligence, healthcare, drones, and other autonomous technology. It will incorporate the existing functions of the Regulatory Horizons Council and the Regulators' Pioneer Fund. Department For Science, Innovation And Technology
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is a ministerial department of the government of the United Kingdom. It was established on 7 February 2023 by a cabinet reshuffle under the Rishi Sunak premiership. The department took on policy responsibilities from the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The new department is responsible for helping to encourage, develop and manage the UK's scientific, research, and technological outputs. DSIT is also responsible for managing the necessary physical and digital infrastructure and regulation to support the British economy, UK public services, national security, and wider UK Government priorities. David Willetts
David Linsay Willetts, Baron Willetts, (born 9 March 1956) is a British politician and life peer. From 1992 to 2015, he was the Member of Parliament representing the constituency of Havant in Hampshire. He served as Minister of State for Universities and Science from 2010 until July 2014 and became a member of the House of Lords in 2015. He was appointed chair of the UK Space Agency's board in April 2022. He is president of the Resolution Foundation. Born in Birmingham, Willetts studied philosophy, politics and economics at Christ Church, Oxford. After working for Nigel Lawson as a private researcher, Willetts moved to Margaret Thatcher's Policy Unit. At age 31, Willetts became head of the Centre for Policy Studies, before entering the House of Commons for Havant at the 1992 general election.
