The Lac Taureau Regional Park is a regional park set around Taureau Reservoir (sometimes identified as ''Toro'' or ''Matawin reservoir'', and colloquially dubbed as ''Taureau lake''), located in part (south half) in the municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints and unorganized territories of Baie-de-la-Bouteille and Lac-Matawin, in the Matawinie regional county municipality, in the administrative region of Lanaudière, in Quebec in Canada. History By the mid-19th Century, this sector has grown mainly through agriculture and forestry. Intensive logging generated logs which were deposited on the ice during winter. Driftwood down the Matawin River to the Saint-Maurice River, to feed the pulp and paper mills downstream, such as those of Grand-Mère Shawinigan and Trois-Rivières. Matawin River (Quebec)
The Matawin River is a river, flowing from west to east through the administrative regions of Lanaudière and Mauricie, in Quebec, Canada. Matawin River is the main tributary of the Saint-Maurice River. Other major tributaries are the rivers Vermillion and Manouane, for which their respective mouth is located North of La Tuque. Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve
The Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve is a Quebec Wildlife Reserve located in the administrative regions of the Mauricie and Lanaudière, Quebec, in Canada. Comprising 1556 square kilometres, it includes 417 lakes and 13 rivers. Like all wildlife reserves, this area is dedicated to the conservation, development and use of wildlife as well as recreational activities. It is however not considered a protected area, because forest and mining activities are being allowed. The reserve is managed by Sépaq which offers camping and equipment rentals. Grand-Mère (, ) is a settlement and former municipality in central Quebec, Canada on the Saint-Maurice River. As a result of the municipal reorganization in Quebec which took effect at the beginning of 2002, Grand-Mère now forms part of the City of Shawinigan. Population in 2001 was 13,179. History Grand-Mère was founded in 1898. Like some of its neighbouring towns, it owes its economic origins to the St-Maurice river on which it is located. A major hydroelectric dam that was built on the river in 1916 was one of the oldest and largest Hydro-Québec generating stations. The dam was replaced by a larger dam in 2004.
