The Regional Government of Ica (; GORE Ica) is the regional government that represents the Department of Ica. It is the body with legal identity in public law and its own assets, which is in charge of the administration of provinces of the department in Peru. Its purpose is the social, cultural and economic development of its constituency. It is based in the city of Ica. Ica (; ) is a Subdivisions of Peru, department and region of Peru. It borders the Pacific Ocean on the west; the Lima Region on the north; the Huancavelica Region, Huancavelica and Ayacucho Region, Ayacucho regions on the east; and the Arequipa Region on the south. Its capital is the city of Ica (city), Ica. Geography The Department of Ica has a remarkable geography. It is the only region of the southern coast formed by plains, also called coast plains, since the Andean Cordillera rise up inland. ''Diario Correo'' is a daily newspaper with national circulation in Peru, directed by Iván Slocovich Pardo, belonging to the El Comercio Group. The provinces of Peru () are the second-level administrative subdivisions of the country. They are divided into districts (). There are 196 provinces in Peru, grouped into 25 regions, except for Lima Province which does not belong to any region. This makes an average of seven provinces per region. The region with the fewest provinces is Callao (one) and the region with the most is Ancash (twenty). While provinces in the sparsely populated Amazon rainforest of eastern Peru tend to be larger, there is a large concentration of them in the north-central area of the country. Ica () ( Quechua: ''Ika'') is a city and the capital of the Department of Ica in southern Peru. While the area was long inhabited by varying cultures of indigenous peoples, the Spanish ''conquistador'' Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera claimed its founding in 1563. As of the 2017 census, it had a population of over 282,407. The city suffered extensive damage and loss of life during the 2007 Peru earthquake.
