It is a transferred use of the Irish surnames Regan and Reagan, which are Anglicized forms of Ó Riagáin, meaning ‘’descendant of Riagáin’’, a name of uncertain meaning. It might also be associated with the Irish language word ''ríogan'', meaning ''queen''. Use for girls was influenced by a character in William Shakespeare’s tragic play ''King Lear''. Regan was more commonly used for males in the Anglosphere in the 1800s. It came into occasional use for girls in the United States in the late 1940s. Regan Lucas Bailey is an American nutritional epidemiologist and a Professor at Florida State University. Early life and education Bailey earned her Bachelor of Science degree and PhD from Pennsylvania State University while enrolling at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for her Master's of Science degree. Career After earning her PhD, Bailey accepted a position as director of career development and outreach at the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. Regan Kelly (born 9 March 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Kelly was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan, and raised in Imperial, Saskatchewan. Draft Kelly was drafted 259th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft but never played in the National Hockey League. Regan Hendry (born 21 January 1998) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Mansfield Town. Hendry started his career at Raith Rovers, on loan from Celtic until the end of the season, in January 2018. Regan Dean Harrison (born 25 November 1977) is an Australian former breaststroke swimmer of the 1990s and 2000s, who won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney as part of the 4×100-metre medley relay team. Regan Hagar is an American musician. Primarily a drummer, he also plays keyboard and guitar on occasion. He was the drummer of the rock band Malfunkshun from 1980 to 1988, featuring Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone on vocals and Kevin Wood on guitar.
