Redemption (2019 Film)
''Redemption'', also known as ''Resgate'', is a 2019 Mozambican crime film directed by Mickey Fonseca. It is the first Mozambican-made film to be featured on Netflix and at the time of its release on the streamer in July 2020, was the only film from a Portuguese-speaking African country in its catalogue. The story revolves around a life of crime as the lead character decides to change his life and be a better father after spending four years, but ends up returning to a life of crime. Mickey Fonseca
Mickey Fonseca, is a Mozambican filmmaker, writer and producer. He is best known for directing the 2009 short film ''Mahla'' and 2019 crime thriller film ''Resgate''. He is the founder of film production company Mahla Filmes. Personal life Fonseca was born and raised in Maputo, Mozambique. At the age of 12, his passion towards cinema grew up where he wrote letters to renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg as well. Career In his mid-twenties, Fonseca moved to Cape Town, South Africa and worked as a runner for Monkey Films. In 2006, he founded the film production company "Mahla Filmes" which is established in Maputo. Then for six years, the company shot commercials only. Crime Film
Crime film is a film belonging to the crime fiction genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and fiction. Stylistically, the genre may overlap and combine with many other genres, such as Drama (film and television), drama or gangster film, but also include Comedy film, comedy, and, in turn, is divided into many sub-genres, such as Mystery film, mystery, suspense or Film noir, noir. Screenwriter and scholar Eric R. Williams identified crime film as one of eleven super-genres in his Screenwriters Taxonomy, claiming that all feature-length narrative films can be classified by these super-genres. The Africa Movie Academy Awards is an annual entertainment award ceremony presented to recognize excellence among African and non-African professionals, who have contributed to the African film industry. The award was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and is run by the Africa Film Academy. It is regarded as one of Africa's most notable film events, and have been sometimes referenced as the "African Oscars". History The first Africa Movie Academy Awards was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, on 30 May 2005. All other subsequent African Academy Awards before 2012 were held at the same venue, except for the 2008 AMAA Awards which was moved to Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, FCT for security reasons.
