Billy Redden
Billy Redden (born 1956) is an American actor, best known for his role as a backwoods mountain boy in the 1972 film ''Deliverance''. He played Lonnie, a banjo-playing teenager in north Georgia, who played the noted "Dueling Banjos" with Drew Ballinger (Ronny Cox). Early life Redden was born in Rabun County, Georgia, on October 13, 1956. Career At the age of fifteen, he was discovered by Lynn Stalmaster, who was scouting for the movie ''Deliverance''. Stalmaster recommended Redden to director John Boorman—though Redden was not an albino child, as Boorman had requested—and Redden was cast. He portrayed a banjo-playing "local" in the film's famous "dueling banjos" scene. Boorman felt that Redden's skinny frame, large head, and almond-shaped eyes made him the natural choice to play the part of an "inbred from the back woods." Jack Redden (born 9 December 1990) is a former Australian rules football player who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Originally from Keith, South Australia, Redden participated in the Auskick program there. He attended Sacred Heart College and played senior football with Glenelg in the SANFL. His brother Tom Redden was once listed as a rookie at the Adelaide Football Club. Redden was selected with the Brisbane Lions' second selection (pick 25 overall) in the 2008 National Draft. Jarrad Redden (born 27 December 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Career Redden, a ruckman, is from Yorke Peninsula and represented South Australia at the 2008 AFL Under 18 Championships, finishing the carnival third in hit-outs and hit-outs to advantage. Taken with pick 54 in the 2008 AFL draft, Redden played in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) as ruckmen Brendon Lade, Dean Brogan and Matthew Primus were ahead of him in Port's ruck cohort. Monroe Minor Redden (September 24, 1901 – December 16, 1987) was a Democratic U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1947 and 1953. Redden was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina; he attended public schools and then Wake Forest College, graduating from its law school in 1923. Wade Redden (born June 12, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and a development coach of the Ottawa Senators, with whom he spent the majority of his career in the National Hockey League (NHL). He also played for the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins. Redden, Oklahoma
Redden was a town located in northeastern Atoka County, Oklahoma, United States, on State Highway 43, approximately 13 miles northeast of Stringtown. The Postal Service established a post office at Redden, Indian Territory on June 1, 1903, in what was then Atoka County, Choctaw Nation. It was named for John A. Redden (1873), a local resident who was appointed the first postmaster. The Statehood Proclamation was signed November 16, 1907. The post office at Redden, Oklahoma, was closed permanently on October 31, 1954. In similar fashion to Daisy, Redden was once a firmly established, thriving community. However, Redden is now little more than a small dot on the map. All that remains of the old town is the Redden Cemetery, fenced and well kept, and the ruins of the schoolhouse standing on the side of the road.
