Receiving The Gift Of Flavor
''Receiving The Gift of Flavor'' is the fourth studio album by The Urge. It was originally released in 1995 in cassette and CD format under the band's own label Neat Guy Recordings. After the band was signed to Immortal Records, the album was re-released switching out the song "Killing is Easy" for "Take Away" in 1996. The album produced three singles ("Brainless", "All Washed Up" and "It's Gettin' Hectic", a Brand New Heavies cover) and sold 150,000 copies. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, the band re-recorded the album live before a studio audience at the Ozark Theater in Webster Groves, MO on August 15, 2015. The live re-recording was released on November 20, 2015, and includes similar cover art with a blue background. The Urge
The Urge is an alternative rock band based in St. Louis, Missouri. Their music combines several genres, including hardcore punk, heavy metal, ska, reggae, funk, rock, and rhythm and blues. Consistent touring throughout the 1990s earned the band a reputation for high-energy live performances. History Early career (1987–1994) The Urge was originally formed in 1987 by Webster Groves High School classmates Jeff Herschel (drums) and Karl Grable (bass), and Pat Malecek (guitar) of Saint Louis University High School. The band went through two singers before recruiting Steve Ewing for vocal duties in late 1987. Alternative metal (also known as alt-metal) is a genre of heavy metal music that combines heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres not normally associated with metal. Alternative metal bands are often characterized by heavily downtuned, mid-paced guitar riffs, a mixture of accessible melodic vocals and harsh vocals and sometimes unconventional sounds within other heavy metal styles. The Brand New Heavies is an acid jazz and funk group formed in 1985 in Ealing in west London. Centered around songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy, the core members of the group since its founding, Brand New Heavies are best known for a string of successful singles in the early 1990s featuring N'Dea Davenport as lead vocalist.
