Sinéad Quinn
Sinéad Quinn (; born 24 March 1980) is a Northern Irish singer, best known as a contestant in the first series of the UK BBC TV series ''Fame Academy'' in 2002. She later went on to sign a recording contract, released an album, and had a #2 UK single with " I Can't Break Down" in February 2003. Career ''Fame Academy'' Quinn did not enter the ''Fame Academy'' in the same way as the other contestants. The first eleven contestants were picked by the show's judges, but the final contestant was picked through a public vote in the first program of the series. Quinn, David Sneddon, and Paul MacDonald sang in this vote, but Quinn won the public's support. She gained 51% of the votes and won her place in the ''Fame Academy''. During the course of the competition she sang a range of songs from Macy Gray's "I Try" and Garth Brook's "If Tomorrow Never Comes" to "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and No Doubt's "Don't Speak". Pete Glenister is an English guitarist, songwriter and producer, known for his collaborations with Alison Moyet and Kirsty MacColl. He has also worked with a number of other artists including Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bruce Foxton, Terence Trent D'Arby, Bros (British band), Bros, E. G. Daily, Mary Coughlan (singer), Mary Coughlan, Geoffrey Williams, Five Thirty, Bryan Ferry and Raphael Gualazzi. Fame Academy
''Fame Academy'' was a British television talent competition to search for and educate new musical talents. The winner would receive a chance to become a successful music artist and part of the international franchise ''Star Academy'' known under various titles in various countries. In the UK version, the prize consisted of a £1m recording contract with a major record company, plus the use of a luxury apartment in London and a sports car for one year. It was broadcast by the BBC and co-produced by an Endemol company called Initial. The first series was won by David Sneddon and the second and final series was won by Alex Parks, it would be cancelled 1 year after its release, on 4 October 2003. "I Can't Break Down" is a song written by Sinéad Quinn, Pete Glenister, and Deni Lew for Quinn's debut album, '' Ready to Run'' (2003). Produced by Glenister and Lew, it was released as her debut single from the album in February 2003 and reached a peak of number two on the UK Singles Chart. It finished at number 65 on the UK year-end chart for 2003. Background and writing Quinn finished as the runner-up in the first series of ''Fame Academy'' behind David Sneddon, who had a number-one single with "Stop Living the Lie" in January 2003. Phillip Carden Thornalley (born 5 January 1960) is an English songwriter, musician, and producer who has worked in the music industry since 1978. He produced the album ''Pornography'' by The Cure and was later their bass player. He began releasing his own music in 1988 and briefly joined the band Johnny Hates Jazz.
