Read House & Gardens
The Read House & Gardens is a historic house museum at 42 The Strand in New Castle, Delaware. The house, built in 1797-1804 for George Read, Jr., was the largest and most sophisticated residence in the state at the time, and is a significant early example of high-style Federal period architecture. The adjacent formal gardens were laid out in the late 1840s by William Couper, the house's third owner. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016, and is part of the landmark New Castle Historic District (New Castle, Delaware), New Castle Historic District. The house is now owned and operated by the Delaware Historical Society as a museum. Cheney Read House
The Cheney Read House is an historic house at 135 Western Avenue in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The -story wood-frame house was built in 1846 by William Hyde, and is the only house in Cambridge's Cambridgeport neighborhood with a two-story Greek portico. It has four full-height Doric columns, with a gable end that is steeper than the usual Greek Revival style. It has a side-entry plan, with the entrance flanked by pilasters and topped by a pedimented lintel. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Nathan Read House
The Nathan Read House is a historic house located at 506 North Main Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. Description and history The house was built in 1845 by Nathan Read, owner of Nathan Read & Co., a retailer selling outerwear. It is part of a cluster Greek Revival houses built on North Main Street after the Great 1843 fire that destroyed much of downtown Fall River. Although it does not have the Greek temple front of some, it has a three-bay wide facade with fully pedimented gable, paneled corner pilasters, and an entrance portico supported by Ionic columns. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 16, 1983. The Read House Hotel, Chattanooga, TN
The Read House Hotel is a historic hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee, founded in 1872. The 141-room main building dates to 1926, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for National Register of Historic Places listings in Hamilton County, Tennessee, Hamilton County. The 100-room rear wing was added in 1962, originally as a motel. History Origins The first hotel on the site, the Crutchfield House, opened in 1847. It was constructed by future Chattanooga Mayor Thomas Crutchfeld, Sr., directly across from the Union Station (Chattanooga), Union Depot. The railways were the main source of business and imports to the town and this constant flow of business allowed the Crutchfield House to prosper.
