Raşit Öztaş
Raşit Öztaş (born 1920, date of death unknown) was a Turkish athlete who competed in the Men's 100 metres world record progression, men's 100 metres in the 1948 Summer Olympics. Raşit Öztaş was born in Nevşehir . His father Mahmut was a carpet and peanut merchant. Mahmut and his wife Atiye (daughter of Hüseyin Hüsnü Pasha) had emigrated to Turkey from Libya shortly after they married. The family settled in Adana and had three children. Mahmut died when Raşit was young and his mother died shortly thereafter. Raşit lived with his uncle for a time and then with a family friend. He finished primary school and started secondary school in Adana, then completed his high school education in Eskişehir, Eskiseheir where his brother lived. He had always been interested in sport and became a runner in high school. He began to travel to tournaments with the Turkish athletic team. Mediterranean Athletics Championships
The Mediterranean Athletics Championships () were an annual outdoor track and field competition between nations in the Mediterranean region that took place from 1947 to 1949. These events were a precursor to the Mediterranean Games, founded in 1951. The Hellenic Amateur Athletic Association (SEGAS) sought to establish a regular sport of athletics, athletics competition for the region, and scheduled the first event for 28–30 June 1935 at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. Seven countries were invited (Greece, France, Italy, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Egypt and Mandatory Palestine), but political and economic complications in the build up to World War II saw the cancellation of the event.
