Finnicization
Finnicization (also finnicisation, fennicization, fennicisation) is the changing of one's personal names from other languages (usually Swedish) into Finnish. During the era of National Romanticism in Finland, many people, especially Fennomans, finnicized their previously Swedish family names. Some of these people were descended from Finnish-speaking farmers, who had previously changed their Finnish names to Swedish ones after climbing society's ladder. This was an understandable stratagem, as official positions (and even many trades) were only open to those speaking Swedish, and a Finnish name would have been an impediment to success. A notable event in finnicization was the centenary, in 1906, 100 years after the birth of the philosopher and statesman Johan Vilhelm Snellman. Author Johannes Linnankoski encouraged Finns to give up their Swedish names on 12 May, Snellman's birthday. During 1906 and 1907 about 70,000 Finns changed their names. Aulikki Rautawaara
Terttu Aulikki Rautawaara (2 May 1906 — 29 December 1990) was a Finland, Finnish soprano. She was famous for her interpretation of works by Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius, including some of the first recordings of Sibelius made outside Scandinavia. She played the part of Countess Almaviva in Mozart, Mozart's ''The Marriage of Figaro'', in the first ever opera performed at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera: history and repertoire, 1934–1951, Glyndebourne festival (1934), and continued to play a number of parts in operas staged in Glyndebourne in the 1930s. She recorded many duets with Peter Anders (tenor), Peter Anders, among others. She also appeared in British film, British and German films in the 1930s (''e.g.'' the German comedy ''Alles hört auf mein Kommando''). In 1945, Jean Sibelius dedicated the ''Hymn to Thaïs'' to her. Einojuhani Rautavaara (; 9 October 1928 – 27 July 2016) was a Finnish composer of classical music. Among the most notable Finnish composers since Jean Sibelius (1865–1957), Rautavaara wrote a List of compositions by Einojuhani Rautavaara, great number of works spanning various styles. These include eight symphony, symphonies, nine operas and fifteen concertos, as well as numerous vocal and chamber music, chamber works. Having written early works using Serialism, 12-tone serial techniques, his later music may be described as Neoromanticism (music), neo-romantic and mystical. Helinä Rautavaara
Helinä Rautavaara (24 March 1929 Helsinki, Finland - 27 February 1998 Helsinki) was a Finnish explorer, adventurer, collector and journalist. She traveled in Africa, Asia and Latin America and collected ethnographic artefacts and information about cultures. Her collection is now displayed in The Helinä Rautavaara Museum in Espoo. Helinä Rautavaara was a daughter of professor of botany Toivo Rautavaara. She studied psychology, graduated but never executed the profession. She wanted to travel "as far as possible" and wrote about her travels to Finnish magazines. Her first trip was to Northern Africa. The second trip to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Ceylon lasted two years. She became interested in religions, and started to record what she saw in photographs, audiotapes and films.
