Rattan, also spelled ratan (from Malay language, Malay: ''rotan''), is the name for roughly 600 species of Old World climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. The greatest diversity of rattan palm species and genera are in the closed-Canopy (biology), canopy Old-growth forest, old-growth tropical forests of Southeast Asia, though they can also be found in other parts of tropical Asia and Africa. Most rattan palms are ecologically considered lianas due to their climbing habits, unlike other palm species. A few species also have tree-like or shrub-like habits. Rattan, Oklahoma
Rattan is a town in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 276 at the 2020 census. Geography Rattan is located in southern Pushmataha County at the intersection of Oklahoma routes 3 and 93. Rock Creek flows past just west of the community center and Hugo Lake lies to the south in adjacent Choctaw County. The southwest end of the Ouachita Mountains lies to the north. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. Rattan Lal Kataria (19 December 1951 – 18 May 2023) was an Indian politician from Haryana. He served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment till 7 July 2021. He was a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. He was elected to 16th Lok Sabha from Ambala as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party with 612,121 votes out of 1,220,121 total, defeating INC candidate Raj Kumar Balmiki. Previously, he was elected to 13th Lok Sabha from Ambala as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was also a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 1987 to 1991, representing the Radaur Assembly constituency. Rattan Chand Jaidka (23 November 1900 – 25 December 1985) played first-class cricket for Gloucestershire in 1927. She was the mother of actress Shobhna Samarth, grandmother of actresses Nutan and Tanuja, great-grandmother of actors Kajol, Tanishaa Mukerji and Mohnish Bahl. Volney Rattan (May 23, 1840 – March 4, 1915) was an American botanist (collector and teacher) who spent most of his professional life in California. He botanized in remote and wild areas of northwest California, finding many species new to science. He corresponded with eminent botanists Asa Gray and George Engelmann, and sent specimens to them. He was an inspiring teacher, and wrote books to help those with botanical interests to learn principles of Taxonomy (biology), taxonomy, and to help them identify native plants of California.
