Ratnagiri District
Ratnagiri district (Marathi pronunciation: �ət̪n̪aËÉ¡iɾiË is a district in the state of Maharashtra, India. The administrative headquarter of the district is located in the town of Ratnagiri. The district is 11.34% urban. The district is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, Sindhudurg district to the south, Raigad district to the north and Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts to the east. This district is part of Konkan division. History From pre-Christian times until 1312, the area – like the entire region – was ruled by various Buddhist and Hindu rulers. The first state known by name was the Mauryan Empire, the last non-Muslim dynasty was the Yadavas of Devagiri. Literacy in India is a key for social-economic progress. The 2011 census, indicated a 2001–2011 literacy growth of 9.2%, which is slower than the growth seen during the previous decade. Raigad is one of the 48 Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian parliament) constituencies of Maharashtra state in western India. Sunil Dattatray Tatkare is an Indian politician currently serving as Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Raigad. He formerly served as the Member of Legislative Assembly, Maharashtra from Shrivardhan (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and as Minister of Water Resources, Maharashtra. Narayan Tatu Rane (born 10 April 1952) is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg. He was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He formerly served as Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Second Modi ministry. He has previously held Cabinet Ministry positions for Industry, Port, Employment and Self-employment; Revenue; and Industry in the Government of Maharashtra.
