Rapid Transit In Hong Kong
Rapid transit in Hong Kong began in 1979 with part of the Modified Initial System of the MTR entered service. The section, then ran only between Shek Kip Mei and Kwun Tong stations, was subsequently extended and new lines were added by the operator, the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (later renamed MTR Corporation Limited, commonly branded as MTR Corporation). In 1983, the British Section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (now East Rail Line of the MTR) started to be electrified. Initially resembling the common design of suburban rail, interior configuration of the EMU train cars were converted to the common design of metro or rapid transit systems, while conventional passenger trains and freight trains still run on this line. Kwun Tong Station
Kwun Tong () is a List of MTR stations, station on the MTR in Hong Kong. The station opened on 1 October 1979 as the eastern terminal station, terminus of the first phase of the Kwun Tong line until the Eastern Harbour Crossing to Quarry Bay opened on 6 August 1989. It is located in the Kwun Tong area, between and stations. The station is elevated and open-air, unlike almost every other station on the line. Only Ngau Tau Kok and stations are like this. The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC; ) is a Government of Hong Kong, Hong Kong State-owned enterprise, wholly government-owned railway and land Asset management, asset manager. It was established in 1982 under the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Ordinance for the purposes of operating the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR), and to construct and operate other new railways.
