Rant And Roar
''Rant and Roar'' is an album by Great Big Sea. Released in 1998 only to the USA, it is a compilation of some of the tracks from Up (Great Big Sea Album), ''Up'' and Play (Great Big Sea Album), ''Play'' also by Great Big Sea. This album was created because the band wanted to expand beyond their mostly Canadian fan base. The album's title comes from the first line of the traditional song "The Ryans and the Pittmans", which is generally more well known than the song's actual name. Track listing #"Ordinary Day" (Alan Doyle, Séan McCann) 3:09 #"When I'm Up" (Oysterband, Ian Telfer, Alan Prosser, John Jones) 3:24 #"Mari-Mac" (Arranged By Alan Doyle, Séan McCann, Bob Hallett, Darrell Power) 2:33 #"It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine), End of the World" (Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe) 2:42 #"Fast As I Can" (Alan Doyle) 4:11 #"The Night Paddy Murphy Died, The Night Pat Murphy Died" (Alan Doyle) 3:02 #"Goin Up" (Alan Doyle) 3:12 #"General Taylor" (Arranged By Alan Doyle ...

Compilation Album
A compilation album comprises tracks, which may be previously released or unreleased, usually from several separate recordings by either one or several performers. If by one artist, then generally the tracks were not originally intended for release together as a single work, but may be collected together as a greatest hits album or box set. If from several performers, there may be a theme, topic, time period, or genre which links the tracks, or they may have been intended for release as a single work—such as a tribute album. When the tracks are by the same recording artist, the album may be referred to as a retrospective album or an anthology. Folk Music
Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. Some types of folk music may be called world music. Traditional folk music has been defined in several ways: as music transmitted orally, music with unknown composers, music that is played on traditional instruments, music about cultural or national identity, music that changes between generations (folk process), music associated with a people's folklore, or music performed by custom over a long period of time. It has been contrasted with commercial and classical styles. The term originated in the 19th century, but folk music extends beyond that. Starting in the mid-20th century, a new form of popular folk music evolved from traditional folk music. This process and period is called the (second) folk revival and reached a zenith in the 1960s. This form of music is sometimes called contemporary folk music or folk ...

Allmusic
AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as All-Music Guide by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it, he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. In 1990, in Big Rapids, Michigan, he founded ''All Music Guid ...

The Ryans And The Pittmans
"The Ryans and The Pittmans" is a popular Newfoundland folk song. It tells of the romantic entanglements of a sailor named Bob Pittman, and his desire to sail home to finally marry his "sweet Biddy". The song is also known as "We'll Rant and We'll Roar", after the first line of the chorus; however, this is also the name by which some foreign variants are known. It is based on a traditional English capstan shanty, "Spanish Ladies", which describes headlands sighted on a sailor's homeward voyage through the English Channel. "Spanish Ladies" has a number of variants: New England whalers sang of " Yankee Whalermen", while their Pacific counterparts sang of Talcuhano Girls. A more landlocked drover's version surfaced in Australia as "Brisbane Ladies". Verses 2, 8, 9, and 10 of the Newfoundland version are adapted from that of the whalers; the remainder were composed around 1875 by Henry W. LeMessurier. It was printed in '' Old Songs of Newfoundland'' (1912) by James Murphy. The pl ...

Oysterband
Oysterband (originally The Oyster Band) is a British folk rock and folk punk band formed in Canterbury around 1976. History Early history The band formed in parallel to Fiddler's Dram, and under the name "Oyster Ceilidh Band" played purely as a dance band at first. The name Oyster comes from the group's early association with the coastal town of Whitstable, Kent, known for the quality of its oysters. Their first album, released under the Oyster Ceilidh Band name, was ''Jack's Alive'' (1980) on the Dingles record label. Subsequent albums, as "Oyster Band" (sometimes "The Oyster Band") were released on the band's own Pukka Music label: ''English Rock 'n' Roll: The Early Years 1800–1850'' and ''Lie Back and Think of England'', followed by ''Liberty Hall'' and ''20 Golden Tie-Slackeners''. The line-up of the band changed over these albums. The first recorded line-up was: *Cathy Lesurf – vocals; * John Jones – melodeon, vocals; * Alan Prosser – guitars, violin; * Chris Ta ...

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
"It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" is a song by American rock band R.E.M., which first appeared on their 1987 album, ''Document''. It was released as the album's second single in November 1987, reaching No. 69 in the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and later reaching No. 39 on the UK Singles Chart on its re-release in December 1991. Lyrics The track is known for its quick-flying, seemingly stream of consciousness rant with many diverse references, such as a quartet of individuals with the initials "L.B.": Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce, and Lester Bangs. In a 1990s interview with ''Musician'' magazine, R.E.M.'s lead singer Michael Stipe claimed that the "L.B." references came from a dream he had in which he found himself at a party surrounded by famous people who all shared those initials. "The words come from everywhere," Stipe explained to ''Q Magazine'' in 1992. "I'm extremely aware of everything around me, whether I am in a ...
