Rancheros Creek
Rancheros Creek is a tributary stream of the Sabinal River, in Medina County and Uvalde County, Texas. Rancheros Creek runs 26 miles from its source in hills 10 miles south of Uvalde, Texas. It runs southeast for a few miles being joined from the left bank by Comanche Creek, then to Comanche Waterhole where it has its confluence with Little Comanche Creek before turning to the southwest and running to its confluence with the Sabinal River, four miles south of Sabinal. Midway on this reach of the creek Elm Creek joins it from the right bank southeast of Sabinal. The Spanish and Mexican governments made many concessions and land grants in Alta California (now known as California) and Baja California from 1775 to 1846. The Spanish Concessions of land were made to retired soldiers as an inducement for them to remain in the frontier. These Concessions reverted to the Spanish crown upon the death of the recipient. The Mexican government later encouraged settlement by issuing much larger land grants to both native-born and naturalized Mexican citizens. The grants were usually two or more square leagues, or in size. Unlike Spanish Concessions, Mexican land grants provided permanent, unencumbered ownership rights. Most ranchos granted by Mexico were located along the California coast around San Francisco Bay, inland along the Sacramento River, and within the San Joaquin Valley. ''Los Rancheros Visitadores'' or the "Visiting Ranchers" is a social club in the United States. The group meets on ranch land in Santa Barbara and embarks northward on a journey across the countryside after receiving a blessing at the Santa Ynez Mission. It attracts over 700 riders on its annual trek. It was founded by the banker and United Airlines co-founder Jack Mitchell and friends, and Mitchell was the first president and led the group for 25 years. Members and guests have included Edward Borein, Thomas M. Storke, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, and Walt Disney. The Santa Barbara Dodgers was the main nickname of minor league baseball teams in the Class A California League based in the Pacific Ocean coastal resort city of Santa Barbara, California. History The Santa Barbara Dodgers were an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers (in Brooklyn, New York) of the National League and later their successors, the Los Angeles Dodgers (after 1955) from 1941 to 1953 and 1964 to1967.
