Ramsgate Hoverport
The Ramsgate Hoverport or Ramsgate International Hoverport was the world's first purpose-built hoverport constructed on the coast at the village of Cliffsend, around from Ramsgate, with direct access to Pegwell Bay. The hoverport was purpose built in 1969 by hovercraft operator Hoverlloyd to serve the English Channel crossing market using SR.N4 hovercraft. It operated passenger services until 1982 following a merger with rival Seaspeed to form the combined Hoverspeed, and operated exclusively from Seaspeed's Dover hoverport. The site remained in use for administration and engineering until December 1987. Construction The Hoverlloyd company was formed in 1965 to take advantage of the new form of transport of hovercraft, with the intention of starting a cross-channel service to compete against the ferry services. Cliffsend
Cliffsend is a village (sometimes written, correctly, as Cliffs End) and civil parish situated almost west of Ramsgate, Kent, United Kingdom, in the Thanet local government district. Hengist and Horsa landed near here in 410AD, and St Augustine in 597. There is evidence to show that the area of Cliffsend Village was inhabited since ancient times. Excavations prior to a housing development aCliffs End Farmin 2003/2004 revealed artefacts and a burial site dating to the Bronze Age. Pegwell Bay Country Park is located here. The Cementation Company is a British civil engineering and construction business. It is currently a part of the Swedish construction and development company Skanska. Established as the Francois Cementation Company in 1910, the company specialised in a recently patented high-pressure grouting technique. Originally applied to coal mining, the technique was refined and applied to other mining activities and eventually other sectors as well. Dreamland Margate
Dreamland Margate is an amusement park and entertainment centre based on a traditional English seaside Travelling funfair, funfair located in Margate, Kent, England. Jimmy Godden (died 2012) was one of the most high-profile businessmen in Kent, England prior to his death from cancer. He was famous for his involvement in a range of high-profile venues and projects including Dreamland Margate, the Rotunda Amusement Park in Folkestone, and Ramsgate Pleasure Park. Personal life Godden was born in Folkestone, Kent. He was married twice and had three sons. He started a career as a builder, prior to marrying into a family heavily involved in Folkestone Rotunda.
