Ramanagara
Ramanagara is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also the headquarters of the Bengaluru South District. It is approximately 50 kilometres from Bangalore. There are buses and trains as public transportations which approximately takes 90 minutes from Bangalore. Famous Bollywood movie '' Sholay'' was shot in 1975 at the surrounding hills of Ramanagara now called Ramagiri hills but also has nickname of Sholay hills. Also the 2022 Malayalam film Jana Gana Mana was also shot here. The town was known as Shamsherabad or Ramserpuram at the ruling time of the Mysorean emperor, Tipu Sultan. It was called Closepet, after Sir Barry Close (1756–1813) in pre-independence times. This name is retained in geology. Then Rahim Nagar or Shamserabad was called Ramanagara. Ramanagara's name was based on the historical story of the ''Ramayana''. Ramanagara District
Bengaluru South ( Ramanagara ) District is one of the 31 districts of Karnataka state in southern India. Ramanagara City is the administrative headquarters of this district. The district is part of Bangalore Division. History Ramanagara district was carved out of the erstwhile Bangalore Rural district on 23 August 2007, comprising Ramanagara, Channapatna, Harohalli, Kanakapura and Magadi taluks. To date, it has given highest number of Chief Ministers for Karnataka of any of the state's districts, namely Kengal Hanumanthaiah, HD Devegowda, HD Kumaraswamy. In 2020 there was a proposal to rename the district to "New Bengaluru district". In July 2024, the Government of Karnataka voted to rename the district to Bengaluru South district, and said that the Revenue Department would begin the process of renaming the district.
