Rainbow Islands
is a 1987 arcade game developed and published by Taito. The arcade version was licensed to Romstar for North American manufacturing and distribution. The game is subtitled "The Story of Bubble Bobble 2" and is the sequel to Taito's hit game ''Bubble Bobble'' from the previous year. It is the second of four arcade games in the ''Bubble Bobble'' series (followed by ''Bubble Symphony'' and '' Bubble Memories'', but itself has two direct sequels: ''Parasol Stars'' and ''Bubble Bobble Part 2''). The game was ported for numerous home computers and game consoles. The main characters are Bubblun and Bobblun, the protagonists of ''Bubble Bobble'' (known as "Bub and Bob" in the western releases). However, in this game they appear in their human forms as "Bubby" and "Bobby", as opposed to the "bubble dragons" of the first game (following on from the first game's true ending). Taito Corporation
is a Japanese company that specializes in video games, toys, arcade cabinets and game centers, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The company was founded by Michael Kogan in 1953 as the importing vodka, vending machines and jukeboxes into Japan. It began production of video games in 1973. FM Towns
The is a Japanese personal computer, built by Fujitsu from February 1989 to the summer of 1997. It started as a proprietary PC variant intended for multimedia applications and PC games, but later became more compatible with IBM PC compatibles. In 1993, the FM Towns Marty was released, a game console compatible with existing FM Towns games. The "FM" part of the name means "Fujitsu Micro" like their earlier products, while the "Towns" part is derived from the code name the system was assigned while in development, "Townes". This refers to Charles Townes, one of the winners of the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics, following a custom of Fujitsu at the time to code name PC products after Nobel Prize winners. Parasol Stars
is a video game by Taito released in 1991. It is a sequel to ''Rainbow Islands'' and the third game in the ''Bubble Bobble'' series. Gameplay Bubby and Bobby (the characters' human names) star once again as the main characters, retaining their human forms from ''Rainbow Islands'', but ''Parasol Stars'' is more of a take on ''Bubble Bobble'' than it is on ''Rainbow Islands''. The game takes place on a number of different worlds, each with a distinct theme. Each world features seven rounds, the last one always hosting a boss (video gaming), boss that must be defeated to progress to the next world. Bubble Memories
is a video game by Taito released to arcades in February 1996. It is the sequel to ''Bubble Symphony'' and is the fifth ''Bubble Bobble'' game (although it is listed as being the third). Unlike ''Bubble Symphony'', this game stars only two dragons, Bub and Bob, like the original ''Bubble Bobble''. It was released in 2007 for PlayStation 2 in Japan only as part of the ''Taito Memories#Taito Memories II Joukan, Taito Memories II Volume 1'' compilation. , also known as , is an arcade video game in the '' Bubble Bobble'' series developed by Taito in 1994. While being a new ''Bubble Bobble'' for a new generation, it takes place after ''Parasol Stars''. Bubble Bobble
is a 1986 platform arcade game developed and published by Taito. It was distributed in the United States by Romstar, and in Europe by Electrocoin. Players control Bub and Bob, two dragons that set out to save their girlfriends from a world known as the Cave of Monsters. In each level, Bub and Bob must defeat each enemy present by trapping them in bubbles and popping, who turn into bonus items when they hit the ground. There are 100 levels total, each becoming progressively more difficult. ''Bubble Bobble'' was designed by Fukio "MTJ" Mitsuji. Romstar
Romstar Inc. was a video game distribution company based in Torrance, California that started operations in 1984. They originally started as the first American distribution arm for SNK (before SNK of America was founded in 1987). They were known for licensing arcade games from major makers for distribution. Among Romstar's clients include Taito, Capcom, SNK, Toaplan, and Seta. They also made games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Game Boy. The ultimate fate of the company is not known. Games continued to be released using the Romstar name until at least 1994 (Goofy Hoops).
