"Rain and Tears" is a song by the Greek band Aphrodite's Child. The song was included on the band's 1968 debut studio album '' End of the World'', and was released as a single in July 1968 on Mercury Records. It became a major hit across Europe, reaching number one in France, number two in several other countries, and entering the top 30 in the United Kingdom and West Germany. The song was written by Evangelos Papathanassiou and on the motifs of Pachelbel's Canon. The recording was produced by Pierre Sberro. The song reached number two in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Norway. In Belgium it reached number one in Wallonia and number seven in Flanders. French-Italian singer Dalida recorded the song in three different versions. Aphrodite's Child
Aphrodite's Child was a Greek rock and pop band formed in 1967, by Evangelos Papathanassiou, later known professionally as Vangelis (keyboards, flutes), Demis Roussos (bass, acoustic and electric guitar, vocals), Loukas Sideras (drums and vocals), and Silver Koulouris (guitar). They initially found success in Europe with hit singles like " Rain and Tears", "End of the World", "I Want to Live", and " It's Five O'Clock", before pivoting to progressive rock with their third and final album, ''666'' (1972). Written by Didier Barbelivien with music composed by Pascal Auriat, it was released as a single in December 1987 and was part of Roussos' 1988 studio album ''Le Grec''. "Summer Wine" is a song written by Lee Hazlewood. Hazlewood originally performed it with Suzi Jane Hokom, but it was his 1967 version with Nancy Sinatra that would prove more successful. In 1969 Lee Hazlewood performed the song on Swedish television with Swedish singer Siw Malmkvist on the ''Together'' programme, which was also was shown at Montreux festival. Lyrics Lyrically, "Summer Wine" describes a man, voiced by Hazlewood, who meets a woman, Hokom/Sinatra, who notices his silver spurs and invites him to have wine with her. After heavy drinking, the man awakens hungover to find his spurs and money have been stolen by the mysterious woman. He then declares a longing for more of her "wine". ''The Story of ... Demis Roussos'' is a double LP by Greek singer Demis Roussos, released in 1987 on the label . Commercial performance The album reached no. 16 in the Netherlands. Background All the songs on the album were Demis Roussos's old songs (including some that he had sung as a vocalist with the band Aphrodite's Child). The first 8 tracks (the whole side 1 and tracks 1–3 on side 2) were recorded live during "Goud van Oud Live" on April 10, 1987 in Rosmalen. All the tracks on side 3 were new studio re-recordings of old Aphrodite Child's hits. Another 7 tracks (tracks 4–5 on side 2 and the whole side 4) were from the Demis Roussos's 1986 album . Artemios "Demis" Ventouris-Roussos ( ; , ; 15 June 1946 – 25 January 2015) was a Greek-Egyptian singer, songwriter and musician. As a band member, he is best remembered for his work in the progressive rock music act Aphrodite's Child, but as a vocal soloist, his repertoire included hit songs like "Goodbye, My Love, Goodbye", "From Souvenirs to Souvenirs" and "Forever and Ever (Demis Roussos song), Forever and Ever". The Loxene Golden Disc was an annual New Zealand music award which ran from 1965 to 1972. It was superseded by the Recording Arts Talent Awards (RATA).
