In philately a railway stamp is a stamp issued to pay the cost of the conveyance of a letter or parcel by rail. A wide variety of railway stamps have been issued by different countries and by private and state railways. Railway stamps of an unofficial or semi-official type are considered cinderella stamps. The first railway stamp was issued in England in 1846 for parcels and Belgium has issued railway stamps since 1879. From 1891 British mainline railway companies issued ''railway letter stamps'' for the conveyance of letters by rail, although that service has now ceased apart from on some small tourist lines. Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. DSB (railway Company)
DSB, an abbreviation of ''Danske Statsbaner'' (, ''Danish State Railways''), is the largest Danish train operating company, and the largest in Scandinavia. While DSB is responsible for passenger train operation on most of the Danish railways, goods transport and railway maintenance are outside its scope. DSB runs a commuter rail system, called the S-train, in the area around the Danish capital, Copenhagen, that connects the different areas and suburbs in the greater metropolitan area. Gribskov Line
The Gribskov Line or the Gribskov Railway ( da, Gribskovbanen, GDS) is a local passenger railway line in North Zealand north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The line runs north from Hillerød through the Gribskov forest and splits into two branches to the seaside resort towns of Tisvildeleje and Gilleleje. Connecting the wide belt of holiday homes along the northern coast of Zealand with Copenhagen is an important role of the Gribskov Line. The railway is standard gauge and single track. It opened in various sections between 1880 and 1924. The distance from Hillerød to either Tisvildeleje or Gilleleje is about , with the total track length being . Odder Line
The Odder Line ( da, Odderbanen), also known formerly as the Hads-Ning Herreders Jernbane (HHJ), is a long standard-gauge single-track light-rail line which connects the city of Aarhus to the town of Odder in the Central Denmark Region. The Odder Line has its own route between Rosenhøj and Odder, and parallels the mainline between Rosenhøj and Aarhus. The line, first opened in 1884, was originally operated by the HHJ, which merged with the Lemvigbane (VLTJ) in 2008 to form Midtjyske Jernbaner. From 2012 to 2016 services on the line were operated by DSB as part of Aarhus Nærbane (Aarhus Commuter Rail). Odsherred Line
The Holbæk Line (Danish: Holbækbanen) is a long standard gauge single track local passenger railway line linking Holbæk with the town of Nykøbing Sjælland in the northwestern part of the island of Zealand some fifty km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. It takes its name after the Odsherred peninsula. Train services on the Odsherred Line are operated by the railway company Lokaltog. History The railway line was built as a result of the Danish Railway Act of 1894. It was created to strengthen the economic development in Odsherred following the reclamation of Lammefjorden. The original intention was to build a station or halt in each of the civil parishes that contributed to its financing. Holbæk County Council was granted a Concession on the railway on 6 May 1896. Parcel Stamp
In philately a parcel stamp is a stamp specifically issued to pay the fee for the transport of a parcel through the postal system and usually marked as such. It is to be distinguished from a postage stamp used to pay the cost of posting a parcel, although there may no practical distinction as far as the sender is concerned. Parcel stamps issued by governments have the same status in philately as postage stamps, but parcel stamps issued by private railway companies or road carriers are regarded as cinderella stamps and many parcel stamps are also railway stamps.
