Rail Transportation In Metro Manila
The rail transportation in the Greater Manila Area is a major part of the Transportation in Metro Manila, transportation system in Metro Manila and Greater Manila Area, its surrounding areas. The railway network, collectively known as the Greater Capital Region Railway System, consists of the Manila Light Rail Transit System (LRT), Manila Metro Rail Transit System (MRT), and Philippine National Railways lines within the region. The network makes up the Rail transportation in the Philippines, majority of active railways in the country and bear the brunt of providing the metropolis with rail as a faster alternative mode of transport other than buses and jeepneys. However, these systems are currently insufficient for the rapidly expanding metropolis; to address this, new lines and line extensions are under construction, which will extend the system far out into neighboring regions. PNR Metro Commuter Line
The PNR Metro Commuter Line was a commuter rail line operated by the Philippine National Railways. It was first inaugurated as the Metro Manila Commuter Service in 1970, and originally served the North Main Line and the South Main Line, as well as the defunct Carmona and Guadalupe branch lines. Since then, it adopted several names such as Metrotrak and Metrotren, before adopting PNR Metro Commuter Line in the late 2000s. The line was also nicknamed the ''Orange Line'' due to its designation in the 1970s. The line had 36 stations serving Metro Manila and Laguna. It was divided into two sections which met at Tutuban station in Tondo, Manila. The Metro North Commuter section ran from Tutuban to Governor Pascual station in Malabon and was colored light green on the system map of PNR. A jeepney (), or simply a jeep (), is a type of Public transport, public utility vehicle (PUV) that serves as the most popular means of Transportation in the Philippines, public transportation in the Philippines. North–South Commuter Railway
The North–South Commuter Railway (; NSCR), also known as the Clark–Calamba Railway, is a commuter rail system under construction on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Running from New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, to Calamba, Laguna, with 36 stations and four services, the railway is designed to improve connectivity within the Greater Manila Area and will be integrated with the railway network in the region. IRRI Station
IRRI station is a railway station located on the South Main Line in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. It is a flag stop for the line as there are no platforms yet being erected, temporary stairs for the trains are added in the meantime to facilitate loading and unloading. History In December 2019, the flag stop was opened as PNR extended the Metro South Commuter trips by adding 5 more stations on the present commuter line. KiHa 59 series and KiHa 35 trainsets ply the route, with the former servicing the entire route to Tutuban and the latter going up to Alabang only. The station served as the southern terminus of the newly opened line. Services was disrupted as soon as the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic takes effect mid-March 2020. Malabon, officially the City of Malabon (), is a highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 380,522 people. Governor Pascual Station
Governor Pascual station (also called Malabon station or Acacia station) is the current railway terminus of the North Main Line located in Malabon, Metro Manila, Philippines. History Historically, the station is named after the adjacent Acacia village, where the old station once stood. Presently, it is named after the road, which is, in turn, named after Wenceslao Pascual, who served as the administrator of Malabon and governor of Rizal, when the then-municipality was part of the province. The old station was demolished during clearing operations in 2007 for the ill-fated and renegotiated Northrail. The area was originally an embankment that would transition into the elevated guideways. The rails that cover the radius of this station was dismantled and replaced with standard gauge tracks.
