Raffles Museum Of Biodiversity Research
The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM; , ) is a museum of natural history at the Kent Ridge Campus of the National University of Singapore. It is named after Lee Kong Chian, a prominent Chinese businessman and philanthropist active in Malaya and Singapore between the 1930s and the 1960s. It was officially opened on 18 April 2015. The idea for a natural history collection was first mooted by Sir Stamford Raffles, and the collection of Southeast Asian biodiversity was begun in 1849 at the Raffles Museum (now the National Museum of Singapore). In 1972, the Government of Singapore removed the natural history collections from the National Museum and gave them to the Zoology Department of what was then the University of Singapore. ''Berita Harian'' (Malay language, Malay for "Daily News") is the sole Malay language, Malay-language broadsheet newspaper published in Singapore. It is published daily from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday as ''Berita Minggu'' (Malay language, Malay: "Sunday News"). It was founded on 1 July 1957. The newspaper was revamped in May 2013. It had an average daily circulation of 52,500 in 2012. This newspaper is indirectly related to the Malaysian newspaper of the same name, ''Berita Harian.'' Although both were established on the same date, 1 July 1957, they were split in September 1972 as the Singaporean one is non-politically aligned whilst the Malaysian one remains aligned with United Malays National Organisation. Natural History
Natural history is a domain of inquiry involving organisms, including animals, fungi, and plants, in their natural environment, leaning more towards observational than experimental methods of study. A person who studies natural history is called a naturalist or natural historian. Natural history encompasses scientific research but is not limited to it. Lee Kong Chian
Tan Sri Dato' Lee Kong Chian (; 18 October 1893 – 2 June 1967), also known by his alias Lee Geok Kun (), was a prominent Chinese Singaporean businessman and philanthropist based in Malaya and Singapore between the 1930s and the 1960s. He was the founder of the Lee Foundation and one of the richest men in Southeast Asia in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also a son-in-law of Tan Kah Kee, another well-known Chinese businessman and philanthropist based in Southeast Asia. He is affectionately known today as the "founding father" of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation. Early life and career Lee was born in Furong Village in Nan'an, Fujian, towards the end of the Qing dynasty. His father was Lee Kuo Chuan (). Stamford Raffles
Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles (5 July 1781 – 5 July 1826) was a British Colonial Office, colonial official who served as the List of governors of the Dutch East Indies, governor of the Dutch East Indies between 1811 and 1816 and lieutenant-governor of Bencoolen between 1818 and 1824. Raffles was involved in Invasion of Java (1811), the capture of the Dutch East Indies, Indonesian island of Java from the French and British interregnum in the Dutch East Indies#French interregnum 1806–1811, Dutch during the Napoleonic Wars. It was returned under the Anglo–Dutch Treaty of 1824. He also wrote ''The History of Java (1817 book), The History of Java'' in 1817, describing the history of the island from ancient times.
