Radium is a chemical element with the symbol Ra and atomic number 88. It is the sixth element in group 2 of the periodic table, also known as the alkaline earth metals. Grand County, Colorado
Grand County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,717. The county seat is Hot Sulphur Springs. History When Grand County was created February 2, 1874 it was carved out of Summit County and contained land to the western and northern borders of the state, which is in present-day Moffat County and Routt County. It was named after Grand Lake and the Grand River, an old name for the upper Colorado River, which has its headwaters in the county. On January 29, 1877, Routt County was created and Grand County shrunk down to its current western boundary. Gore Canyon, elevation , is a short isolated canyon on the upper Colorado River in southwestern Grand County, Colorado in the United States. Steep and rugged, the approximately 3 mile (5 km) long gorge was carved by the river as it passed the northern end of the Gore Range southwest of Kremmling. The Town of Kremmling is a Statutory Town in Grand County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 1444 at the 2010 United States Census. The town sits along the upper Colorado River in the lower arid section of Middle Park between Byers Canyon and Gore Canyon. The town was founded in 1881 during the Colorado Silver Boom days, but the lack of mineral resources in the nearby mountains made the town grow very slowly in the early days. History The settlement started with only a general store, run by a man named Rudolph "Kare" Kremmling, built on the north side of Muddy Creek. In 1881, two brothers, Aaron and John Kinsey, made part of their ranch into a town and called it Kinsey City. Kare moved his store across the river to the new site and soon people were calling this place Kremmling. Radium Hot Springs (Colorado)
Radium Hot Springs is a thermal mineral spring near the small town of Radium, Colorado, located halfway between Kremmling and State Bridge, in Grand County, Colorado. Description The springs emerge from several sources near the edge of the Colorado River. A large primitive soaking pool with a sandy bottom has been constructed against a sheer rock cliff. The rock-lined soaking pool is reached by way of climbing down a fifty foot long rock chimney via footholds and handholds in the rock. The pool is 2 feet deep and approximately 10 by 18 feet. It fits approximately 10 to 20 people. It is dangerous to attempt to jump from the soaking pool on the rock cliff to the river below, and serious injuries could be incurred.
