Radio Romántica
Radio Romántica was a name used by EXCL Communications (later Entravision) for various Spanish-language radio stations from the 1990s through 2005. The earliest known reference to Radio Romántica is from 1997, at the time when EXCL moved KBRG 104.9 to 100.3 San Jose during a frequency swap deal from American Radio Systems. Later EXCL's Radio Romántica Spanish AC format was adapted to KJMN Denver, KRZY-FM Albuquerque, an unknown Salinas station, and another unknown station were using the name. Entravision acquired the Radio Romántica name and stations following its purchase of EXCL Communications in 2000. The name was subsequently used on several of Entravision's other stations, including KLOB Palm Springs, KRRE Sacramento, KCVR Modesto, KVVA/KDVA Phoenix, and KRVA Dallas. In 2003, Entravision began phasing out the Radio Romántica format in favor of Super Estrella. EXCL Communications was a Spanish-language broadcasting company founded in 1989 by Athena and Christopher Marks. It acquired its first radio stations, San Jose, California's KBRG and KLOK from brothers Danny Villanueva and James Villanueva (Radio América, Inc) in 1989. KVVA-FM (107.1 FM, "La Suavecita 107.1") is a radio station licensed to Apache Junction, Arizona, broadcasting a Spanish Adult Hits music format. The station serves the Phoenix area. The station, owned by Entravision Communications, was part of the "Super Estrella" satellite network until 2009. Its studios are located in Phoenix near Sky Harbor Airport, and the transmitter is located in Mesa. History KSTM launched from Apache Junction on July 1, 1973. The station, the town's first, was built by Harold Harkins and sold to Beta Communications in 1980. Under Beta, it broadcast a rock format known as "The Storm". Two years after buying KSTM, Beta acquired KIFN, Phoenix's heritage Spanish-language station, and relaunched it as KVVA. KXSC (104.9 FM) is a radio station based in Sunnyvale, California, serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned by the University of Southern California and airs a classical music format as a full-time simulcast of KDFC in San Francisco. The station broadcasts in HD. History KXSC (104.9 FM) began in 1961 as KHYD, a 3,000–watt station operating from a house on Mowry Avenue in Fremont, California. The station call letters changed to KFMR in 1964. 18-year-old Bill Stairs was among the alumni of early days of KFMR who went on to a career as a DJ, program director and broadcast consultant in markets from Spokane, Sacramento and San Diego in the west to Boston and Chicago in the east. KRVA (1600 kHz), branded as "Radio Saigon Dallas 1600", is a commercial AM radio station, licensed to Cockrell Hill, Texas, and serving the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. KCVR (1570 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Lodi, California. It airs Punjabi language programming and is owned by Punjabi American Media, LLC. Punjabi is a language spoken in parts of India and Pakistan. KCVR's programming is simulcast on KIID 1470 AM in Sacramento, KWRU 1300 AM in Fresno, KLHC 1350 AM in Bakersfield and KOBO 1450 AM in Yuba City. KLOB (94.7 FM La Suavecita) is a Spanish language Soft AC radio station licensed to Thousand Palms, California, and serving the Palm Springs area.
