The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF, ; Jawi alphabet, Jawi: ) was formed on 2 June 1958 as the Royal Federation of Malaya Air Force (; ). However, its roots can be traced back to the Malayan Auxiliary Air Force formations of the British Royal Air Force in then-colonial British Malaya. The Royal Malaysian Air Force operates a mix of modern United States, American, European Union, European and Russian-made aircraft. History Early years The Malaysian air forces trace their lineage to the Malayan Auxiliary Air Force formations of the Royal Air Force (RAF) formed in 1934. They later transformed into the Straits Settlements Volunteer Air Force (SSVAF) and the Malayan Volunteers Air Force (MVAF) formed in 1940 and dissolved in 1942 during the height of the Japanese invasion of Malaya, Japanese advance over Malaya. The Royal Moroccan Air Force (; ; ) is the air force of the Moroccan Armed Forces. History The Moroccan air force was formed on 14 May 1956 as the Sherifian Royal Aviation (). Its modern installations and bases were inherited from France (Bassatine Air Base, Meknes, Rabat-Salé Airport, Rabat in tandem with the United States, Marrakech-Menara Airport, Marrakech, Kenitra Air Base, Kenitra, Ben Guerir Air Base, Ben Guerir, Ben Slimane Airport, Boulhault, Nouasseur Air Base, Nouasseur, and Sidi Slimane Air Base, Sidi Slimane), and later Spain (Hassan I Airport, Laayoune). In the 1950s and 1960s, American aircraft were deployed in several of these bases, including nuclear bombers from the Strategic Air Command.
