''Quit Dreaming and Get on the Beam'' is the second studio album by English musician Bill Nelson. The album was released in May 1981 and was produced by Nelson and John Leckie. It is the first in a trilogy of albums with Mercury Records, including '' The Love That Whirls''... (1982) and ''Chimera'' (1983), and is his first solo album in a decade since ''Northern Dream'' in 1971. Originally intended as the second album by Bill Nelson's Red Noise, ''Quit Dreaming''... follows a period of uncertainty for Nelson after Red Noise was dropped by EMI Records. Despite being released nearly two years after its recording, it reached no. 7 in the UK albums chart, the highest position of any of Bill Nelson's projects to date. Bill Nelson (musician)
William Nelson (born 18 December 1948) is an English singer, guitarist, songwriter, producer, painter, video artist, writer and experimental musician. He rose to prominence as the chief songwriter, vocalist and guitarist of the rock group Be-Bop Deluxe, which he formed in 1972. Nelson has been described as "one of the most underrated guitarists of the seventies art rock movement". In 2015, he was recognised with the Visionary award at the Progressive Music Awards. Personal life Nelson was born in Wakefield in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to Jean and Walter Nelson. His father was an alto saxophone player, and his mother a dancer. ''Drastic Plastic'' is the fifth and final album by English rock band released in February 1978. Recording and content ''Drastic Plastic'' was recorded in in the south of France in the summer of 1977. Nelson recorded the album in because he was inspired by the relation of the place with artist who influenced him in the 1960s. Composition The sound of ''Drastic Plastic'' is different from the previous albums, showing changes in the musical direction of the band. This sound has been classified as art rock and New wave music, new wave. The song is a song dedicated to Nelson's father, Walter, who died in 1976. Release ''Drastic Plastic'' was released in February 1978 by record label Harvest Records, Harvest. Andrew Savage, or A. Savage, (born March 13th, 1986) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and painter, best known for his work as co-frontman for the rock band Parquet Courts. In addition to his work for Parquet Courts, Savage is also a solo artist. In 2017, he released his first album, '' Thawing Dawn'', under the stage name A. Savage. Be-Bop Deluxe were an English rock band who achieved critical acclaim and moderate commercial success during the mid to late 1970s. History Be-Bop Deluxe Be-Bop Deluxe were founded in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, by singer, guitarist and principal songwriter Bill Nelson in 1972. The founding line-up consisted of Nelson, guitarist Ian Parkin, bassist and vocalist Robert Bryan, drummer Nicholas Chatterton-Dew, and keyboardist Richard Brown (who left in December of that year).
