Quiet Riot (1978 Album)
''Quiet Riot'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Quiet Riot. It was released exclusively in Japan on March 2, 1978. The album features guitarist Randy Rhoads, who later gained recognition for playing on Ozzy Osbourne's first two solo albums. Overview Analyzing it decades later, music critic Martin Popoff said the album is more "glam pop" than heavy metal or hard rock, like in the band's 80's output. The song "Back to the Coast" was originally written by Rhoads and his brother Kelle when they were teenagers. It was originally called "West Coast Tryouts". Quiet Riot is an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band founded in Los Angeles in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads, bassist Kelly Garni, and vocalist Kevin DuBrow. The original lineup featured Rhoads and Garni with lead vocalist Kevin DuBrow and drummer Drew Forsyth, though that version of the band was mired in turmoil that would eventually see Garni fired for making death threats towards DuBrow. Their most commercially successful lineup consisted of DuBrow alongside guitarist Carlos Cavazo, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Frankie Banali, and in 1983 released their breakthrough album ''Metal Health'', which is known for being the first heavy metal album to top the ''Billboard'' album chart. Kevin DuBrow
Kevin Mark DuBrow (October 29, 1955 – November 19, 2007) was an American singer, best known as the lead vocalist of the Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Quiet Riot from 1975 until 1987, and again from 1993 until his death in 2007. Early life, photography work and family Kevin DuBrow was born to Laura and Alvin Dubrow. He was raised in Los Angeles with his younger brother, Terry Dubrow, Terry, who went on to become a plastic surgeon and TV personality. At age 13, Kevin and his family eventually settled in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Van Nuys, Los Angeles, Van Nuys. DuBrow was raised Jewish and had the nickname "Butch" growing up. DuBrow learned to play 12-string guitar, and his first band consisted of 11-year-olds who played only one gig, to an audience of senior citizens who were not particularly fond of rock music. David Clark (born 15 December 1939) is an English musician, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. Clark was the leader, drummer and manager of the 1960s beat group the Dave Clark Five, the first British Invasion band to follow the Beatles to the United States in 1964. The Dave Clark Five, also known as the DC5, were an English rock and roll band formed in 1958 in Tottenham, London. Drummer Dave Clark was the group's leader, producer and co-songwriter. In January 1964, they had their first UK top-ten single, "Glad All Over", which knocked the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK Singles Chart. "Glad All Over" is a song written by Dave Clark and Mike Smith and recorded by the Dave Clark Five. Released in 1963, it was a hit and in the United States formed part of the early British Invasion, becoming the first hit of the movement by a group other than the Beatles, whose song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" it displaced at number one on the UK Singles Chart. It was the second-highest selling single of 1964 in the UK, after the Beatles' " Can't Buy Me Love". The song is notable as the anthem of English football club Crystal Palace. Ronnie Lane
Ronald Frederick Lane (1 April 1946 – 4 June 1997) was an English musician and songwriter who was the bassist and co-founder of the rock bands Small Faces (1965–69) and Faces (band), Faces (1969–73). Lane formed Small Faces in 1965 after meeting Steve Marriott, with whom he subsequently wrote many of their hit singles including "All or Nothing (Small Faces song), All or Nothing", "Itchycoo Park" and "Lazy Sunday (Small Faces song), Lazy Sunday". After Marriott left Small Faces in 1968, band members Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones, Kenny Jones were joined by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to form Faces (band), Faces. Steve Marriott
Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991) was an English actor, musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a student at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London and appeared in the West End, before taking a role in music. He co-founded and played in the rock bands Small Faces and Humble Pie, in a career spanning over 20 years. Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. In Britain, Marriott became a popular, often-photographed Mod (subculture), mod style icon. Small Faces were an English Rock music, rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966. "Tin Soldier" is a song released by the English rock band Small Faces on 2 December 1967, written by Steve Marriott (credited to Marriott/Lane). The song peaked at number nine in the UK singles chart and number 38 in Canada. It has since been covered by many other notable rock artists. Song profile ''Tin Soldier'' was originally written by Steve Marriott for singer P. P. Arnold, but Marriott liked it so much he kept it himself. It was a song that he wrote to his first wife, Jenny Rylance. P. P. Arnold can be heard singing backing vocals on the song and also performed as guest singer at television recordings of the song.
