Queer As Folk (British TV Series)
''Queer as Folk'' is a 1999 British television series that chronicles the lives of three gay men living in Manchester's gay village around Canal Street. Initially running for eight episodes, a two-part follow up was shown in 2000. It was written by Russell T Davies and produced by Red Production Company for Channel 4. Background The title of the programme comes from a historic English saying, "there's nowt so queer as folk", meaning "there's nothing as strange as people"; which is a word play on the modern-day English sense of "queer", as homosexual. The script had originally started life with the title ''Queer as Fuck'' but ''Queer as Folk'' was considered more suitable. Characters and plot The main characters are Stuart Allen Jones ( Aidan Gillen), who is highly sexually active, and successfully so. ''Queer as Folk'' is a serial drama television series that ran from December 3, 2000, to August 7, 2005. The series was produced for Showtime by Cowlip Productions, Tony Jonas Productions, Temple Street Productions, and Showtime Networks, in association with Crowe Entertainment. It was developed and written by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, who were the showrunners and also the executive producers along with Tony Jonas, former president of Warner Bros. Television. It is based on the British series of the same title created by Russell T Davies. Although it was set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, much of the series was actually shot in Toronto and employed various Canadian directors known for their independent film work (including Bruce McDonald, David Wellington, Kelly Makin, John Greyson, Jeremy Podeswa and Michael DeCarlo) as well as Australian director Russell Mulcahy, who directed the pilot episode. Queer As Folk Soundtracks
The ''Queer as Folk'' soundtracks are the official musical accompaniment to the North American television series ''Queer as Folk''. Five CDs were released overall, each one covering from the first season, to the final. Each soundtrack featured the more prominent remixes from the show, with some songs not making it onto the soundtracks. The first two soundtracks were released by RCA Victor, while the rest were released by The Silver Label. Each soundtrack consists solely of songs played in the various clubs during the series. The first 3 seasons contain the opening theme, "Spunk" by Greek Buck, which was used only for the first 3 seasons of the show. The 4th season soundtrack includes the new theme "Cue the Pulse to Begin" by Burnside Project, which was used for the final two seasons of the series. The opening credits changed as well.
