Quebec College Of Physicians
The ''Collège des médecins du Québec'' (CMQ), or Quebec College of Physicians, is a professional organization responsible for setting educational standards for physicians, regulating the practice of medicine, and policing its members at the provincial level in Quebec. Its mission is to promote quality medical care in order to protect the public. Membership with the CMQ is mandatory in order to practice medicine within the province of Quebec, Canada. Daniel Arnoldi
Daniel Arnoldi (March 7, 1774 – July 19, 1849) was a Canadian medical doctor. He was born in Montreal and received his education in England and Montreal, obtaining his medical licence in 1795. He practised in many towns in what is now Quebec and Ontario before establishing a practice in Montreal. He became a medical examiner in 1812, but was excluded in 1823 when the governor decided that only doctors from Montreal General Hospital could be examiners. In 1831, when the power to appoint examiners was transferred to a licensing board chosen by doctors, Arnoldi was appointed to the board. He became the board's chair in 1834 but resigned a few months later when he disagreed with the politics of the board. In 1836 Arnoldi was fined 10 shillings for assaulting a Black Canadians, black man. During the Lower Canada Rebellion he was accused of desecrating a corpse, but this was disputed by a parish priest. Wolfred Nelson
Wolfred Nelson (10 July 1791 – 17 June 1863) was the mayor of Montreal, Quebec, from 1854 to 1856. Biography Nelson was born in Montreal. His father, William Nelson, was an immigrant to Colonial America from Newsham, North Yorkshire, England. His mother, Jane Dies, was a teacher and daughter of an important land owner in the New York area. Along with his younger brother Robert Nelson, he was known as a member of the Patriotes and for his leading role in the Lower Canada Rebellion. Nelson studied at the school of his father in William Henry. He became a physician in January 1811 and subsequently served in that capacity with the British troops on the War of 1812. He moved to Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu where he opened a distillery. He entered politics when elected in William Henry in 1827. He supported the Parti Patriote. Emmanuel Persillier-Lachapelle
Emmanuel-Persillier Lachapelle (21 December 1845 – 1 August 1918) was a Canadian physician and founder of the Hôpital Notre-Dame in Montreal, Quebec. Biography Lachapelle was born on 21 December 1845 in Sault-au-Récollet to Pierre Persillier, '' dit'' Lachapelle, and Zoé Toupin. He attended the Petit Séminaire de Montréal, followed by the Montreal School of Medicine and Surgery. Upon graduating in 1869, he began working as a physician at the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal. In parallel with his medical career, he was editor of ''L'Union médicale du Canada'' from 1876 to 1877. He joined the editorial committee from 1878 to 1882. In 1978, his career as a physician brought him to teach to medical students at the Université Laval de Montréal. He later became dean of this university's faculty of medicine in 1908. John Jones Ross (August 16, 1831 – May 4, 1901) was a Canadian politician. Ross served as the seventh premier of Quebec and later as a member of the Senate of Canada. The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC; , ''CMFC'') is a professional association and the legal certifying body for the practice of family medicine in Canada. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is the regulatory college for medical doctors in Ontario, Canada. The college issues certificates of registration for all doctors to allow them to practise medicine as well as: monitors and maintains standards of practice via assessment and remediation, investigates complaints against doctors, and disciplines those found guilty of professional misconduct and/or incompetence.
