QXT's Nightclub
QXT's Nightclub is a live music and dance club on Mulberry Street in Newark, New Jersey catering mainly to a goth clientele. Background The venue opened as a nightclub in 1991. Formerly the Quixote restaurant from which it gets its initialed name, the venue was built in the style of a Spanish castle in the 1970s. Prior to that, at midcentury, the address housed the Capitol Restaurant. The goth subculture began to predominate at the venue in the 2000s. The goth club is located in the heart of what was once Newark's Chinatown beginning in the 1890s. It sits in the area of the city between City Hall and the Ironbound. It is host to shows by live punk, goth, and hardcore bands and DJs as well as burlesque acts and a number of film shoots. WSOU (89.5 FM) is a non-commercial, college radio station. The station broadcasts from the campus of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. It is a student-run station with university administrator Mark Maben serving as its current General Manager. The station also streams online. Programming The station currently broadcasts a modern active rock format, featuring heavy metal, punk, emo, hardcore and post-hardcore as well as other types of rock-based music. The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the fifth-largest cathedral in North America, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. Newark Paramount Theater
The Newark Paramount Theatre is an abandoned vaudeville house turned "movie palace" film theatre in the Four Corners Historic District in Downtown Newark, New Jersey. History The theatre opened in 1886 and closed in 1986. The owner retained Scottish-born American architect Thomas W. Lamb to expand and renovate the house into an ornate movie palace in the early 20th century. The interior of the theater still stands, albeit dilapidated, and the marquee and signage remain intact. The comedian Jerry Lewis worked as an usher at the theater in his youth. It took the name "Paramount" circa 1930. Billie Holiday performed there.
