Puerto De Navacerrada
The Navacerrada Pass ( Spanish: ''Puerto de Navacerrada''; ) is a mountain pass in the Guadarrama Mountains, in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. In 1788, it replaced the Fuenfría Pass as mountain pass in the route crossing the Sierra de Guadarrama connecting the Spanish cities of Madrid and Segovia. The saddle point lies at 1,858 metres over sea level. It is located in the border between the province of Segovia and the Community of Madrid. The route consists of the road in the Madrilenian side and the in the segovian side. As of 2019, several of the Alpine buildings erected in the surroundings are derelict. C-9 (Cercanías Madrid)
Line C-9, formerly known as the Guadarrama Electric Railway ( es, Ferrocarril Eléctrico del Guadarrama), is a narrow-gauge mountain railway incorporated into Madrid's Cercanías commuter rail network. The line is operated by Renfe Operadora and runs through the Guadarrama Mountains from Cercedilla, Madrid to , Segovia. Although classified as a commuter rail line, Line C-9 primarily serves the ski resorts at Cotos and Navacerrada Passes, connecting with the rest of the commuter rail system with the Line C-8 at Cercedilla Station. Line C-9 is the only metre-gauge railway among the Cercanías Madrid lines. History The railway was first conceived in the 1910s as a means of connecting urban Madrid to the Guadarrama Mountains via the Navacerrada Pass. Construction began in 1919 and the section connecting Cercedilla on the Madrid-Segovia Line with Navacerrada opened on 12 July 1923 as the Guadarrama Electric Railway. The Sierra de Guadarrama (Guadarrama Mountains) is a mountain range forming the main eastern section of the Sistema Central, the system of mountain ranges along the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located between the systems Sierra de Gredos in the province of Ávila, and Sierra de Ayllón in the province of Guadalajara. The range runs southwest–northeast, extending from the province of Ávila in the southwest, through the Community of Madrid, to the province of Segovia in the northeast. The range measures approximately in length. Its highest peak is Peñalara, in elevation.
