Hammer Records was a record label located in London, England. It was formed in 1979 and released records until the 1980s. Background Hammer Records was an independent record label. The label's records were distributed by Pye. The directors of the company were Des Dolan and Simon Cohen. Simon Cohen previously was the director of the Psycho label, founded in the late 1970s which had Limme, Clem Curtis & The Foundations, Mac Kissoon, and The Majors on their books. Pye Records
PYE or Pye Records is an independent British record label. It was first established in 1955 and played a major role in shaping rock 'n' roll and pop music history. The Pye name was dropped in 1980 due to trademark issues, after which it produced almost no music until the company name and trademark was acquired by the Scottish broadcaster and music producer Tony Currie (broadcaster), Tony Currie in September 2024. The new Pye Records has begun to release new albums on vinyl: ''Race the Sun'' from the Tony Currie Orchestra, conducted by Gavin Sutherland (conductor), Gavin Sutherland (principal guest conductor for the English National Ballet), and Callum Au. Limmie Snell
Limmie Frank Snell, Jr. (October 4, 1948 – May 27, 1986) was an American soul singer. Background Limmie Frank Snell, Jr. was born in Dalton, Alabama, United States. He grew up in Canton, Ohio, and attended McKinley Senior High School, but did not graduate. According to another source, he was born in 1945. As Limmie B. Good, he began recording at the age of 11 for Columbia Records, Mercury Records and Warner Bros. Records. In early 1965, under the name "Lemme B. Good", Snell released the original version of "Good Lovin'", later a number one hit for the Young Rascals. Later, he formed the group Limmie & Family Cookin'. Career Based in Canton, the group Limmie & Family Cookin' consisted of Snell and two of his sisters, Martha and Jimmie. Clem Curtis & The Foundations
Clem Curtis & the Foundations were an English soul, R&B recording and performing act who were fronted by Clem Curtis. They were formed some years after the Foundations broke up. They were entrants in the 1977 UK Eurovision contest. They also had a chart hit with " On Broadway" in 1980. One of their early members would go on to be a member of the Glitter Band. One would later join the band Hot Chocolate and another would go on to be a member of the funk band Heatwave. At times, the group would alternate between the names Clem Curtis & the Foundations, and the Foundations. Background Clem Curtis left the Foundations in 1968 and was replaced by Colin Young. He then embarked on a solo career. Mac Kissoon
Mac and Katie Kissoon are a pop soul duo, consisting of brother and sister Mac Kissoon (born Gerald Farthing, November 11, 1943, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) and Katie Kissoon (born Katherine Farthing, March 11, 1951, Port of Spain). Early life and career Mac and Katie Kissoon emigrated to the United Kingdom with their family in 1962. Katie began recording in 1965, cutting a total of four singles under the name Peanut, and was later a member of the Rag Dolls, who had a single released in 1967 and another in 1968. Mac Kissoon was a member of the Marionettes in 1966 and 1967, then fronted his own band which played U.S. bases in Europe. Hank Mizell
Hank Mizell (November 9, 1923 – December 23, 1992) was an American singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is best-remembered for his rockabilly single "Jungle Rock" (1958), which was obscure on its original release but reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in 1976. In the Netherlands, it made it to number 1. Background Born William M. Mizell in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States, Mizell moved to Asheville, North Carolina with his adoptive parents. He joined the United States Navy and served in the Second World War. After being discharged, he decided to take up singing professionally, with a band featuring guitarist Jim Bobo. Settling in Montgomery, Alabama, Mizell sang on local radio, where one of the presenters nicknamed him 'Hank', after the country singer Hank Williams. Antoine Caliste Domino Jr. (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017), known as Fats Domino, was an American singer-songwriter and pianist. One of the pioneers of rock and roll music, Domino sold more than 65 million records. Born in New Orleans to a French Creole family, Domino signed to Imperial Records in 1949. Lieutenant Pigeon are an English novelty musical group popular in the early 1970s, originating in Coventry. Mary O'Hara
Mary O'Hara (born 12 May 1935) is an Irish soprano and harpist from County Sligo. She gained attention on both sides of the Atlantic in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Her recordings of that period influenced a generation of Irish female singers who credit O'Hara with influencing their style, among them Carmel Quinn, Mary Black and Moya Brennan.
