Prostitution In Bangladesh
Prostitution is legal in Bangladesh but regulated by law. According to the law, only adult women can engage in professional sex work by making a declaration in court, although among the hundreds of thousands of sex workers in Bangladesh, a large number are children. Generally, three types of sex workers are seen in Bangladesh: hotel-based, floating in parks and gardens, and brothel-based. Although several brothels were demolished in the 20th and 21st centuries, in 2020 there were 14 registered brothels in Bangladesh. While professional female sex work is legal, professional male sex work is illegal, though it exists in various places. According to research, there are 200,000 sex workers in Bangladesh, among whom 10,000 to 29,000 are underage. Bede People
Bede (feminine: Bedeni) or Bedey, also known as Mon-tong, is an Indo-Aryan peoples, Indo-Aryan nomadic ethnic group of Bangladesh. The Bede traditionally live, travel, and earn their living on the river, which has given them the name of "Water Gypsy" or "River Gypsy". Bedes are similar to Romani people, European gypsies. They travel in groups and never stay in one place for more than a couple of months. The Bedes are a marginalized group. Historically the Bedes were unable to vote as they did not own land, nor could they apply for banks loan or microcredit for the same reason. Mujra is a dance performance that emerged during Mughal rule in India, where the elite class and local rulers like the nawabs (often connected to the Mughal emperor's court) used to frequent tawaifs (courtesans) for entertainment. Mehfil or ''mahfil'' (Urdu: محفل), alternatively known as Bazm (Urdu: بزم) is a formal venue where indoor recreational activities such as poetry ( mushaira), singing, music, and dance are entertained in parts of the Indian subcontinent. It is part of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb culture. Historically, ''mehfil''s were presented in the homes or palaces of Muslim royalty or noblemen, who acted as these artists' patrons. Satyen Sen (; 28 March 1907 - 5 January 1981) was a Bengali revolutionary, writer, and cultural activist who played a vital role in the Indian independence movement and later in post-independence progressive movements. A member of Jugantar party and later the Communist movement, he spent years in prison and embraced Marxism–Leninism. Sen was a founder of the cultural organisation Udichi and a key figure in the progressive writers' movement. Tappa is a form of Indian semi-classical vocal music. Its specialty is a rolling pace based on fast, subtle and knotty construction. Its tunes are melodious and sweet, and depict the emotional outbursts of a lover. Tappe (plural) were sung mostly by songstresses, known as baigees, in royal courts. Thumri
Thumri () is a vocal genre or style of Indian music. The term "thumri" is derived from the Hindi verb ''thumuknaa'', which means "to walk with a dancing gait in such a way that the ankle-bells tinkle." Khyal or Khayal (ख़याल / خیال) is a major form of Hindustani classical music in the Indian subcontinent. Islam Khan I
Shaikh Alauddin Chisti (1570–1613; popularly known as Islam Khan Chisti) was a Mughal general and the Subahdar of Bihar and later Bengal. He transferred the capital of Bengal from Rajmahal to Sonargaon and founded the city of Jahangirnagar. He was awarded the titular name of Islam Khan by Mughal emperor Jahangir.
